Two weeks after the news of Kenma's expected lifespan, he had another seizure. It was bad enough that Kuroo had to take him to the hospital, where they stayed for two days.

Now, Kuroo sat in a cafe with Bokuto and Akaashi. He sipped at his coffee and sighed.

Akaashi took off his glasses and rubbed at his temples. "He really only has a year?"

"Basically. Maybe a bit longer. But... Maybe less, too." Kuroo frowned and glanced at Bokuto, who looked sadder than he'd ever seen before.

With a sigh, Bokuto ran a hand through his hair. "This is insane. I mean, I know we've known this would come for awhile, but still. I can't imagine having so little time left with him."

Kuroo nodded. "Yeah. But let's not talk like he's already gone. We've still got a year, and I'm determined to make it a good year for him."

"But how do we do that?" Akaashi frowned.

"That's why I wanted to talk with you guys. Kenma doesn't like people making a fuss over him, but still... I have some ideas that I think would make him happy. And I need your help."

Bokuto grinned at him. "You already know that we're all in."

"Hey darling?"

Kenma layed on Kuroo's lap as they watched a movie, and he'd nearly fallen asleep. "Hmm?" He opened his eyes and glanced up at Kuroo.

"Your birthday is next week. What do you want to do for it?" Kuroo ran a hand through Kenma's hair and smiled at him.

Kenma's brows drew together. "I'm not sure. I haven't really thought about it."

"Do you wanna go for a picnic? Or maybe to an arcade?"

"No. Arcades are too crowded, and it's too cold outside for a picnic." Kenma squeezed Kuroo's hands and smile softly. "Although... There is something..."

"Oh? Do tell my dear Kenma."

Kenma leaned up and whispered in Kuroo's ear, causing his boyfriend to burst out in laughter.

"Really!? I never would've guessed you'd want to do something like that."

"Well, it is basically like a video game in real life."

Kuroo grinned. "That is true. I can try to put something together. In fact... That will actually work out very well!"

"Oh?"

"You'll know soon enough." Kuroo gave him that sly, cocky grin that Kenma loves.

"Kuroo Tetsurou, what are you plotting?"

"Sorry, Kenma. I've been sworn into secrecy."

Kenma laughed lightly and rolle his eyes. "You are a pain in my ass."

"Ah, but you love me."

"Yeah, yeah. I love you. But you know what I love more?"

"Nothing?"

Kenma elbowed Kuroo in the stomach. "Fine. You know what I love almost as much? You telling me your plans."

"Now where's the fun in that?" Kuroo smiled softly and pressed a kiss to Kenma's forehead. "I promise you'll like it." He glanced over Kenma's tired face and his smile turned into a frown.

"What's with your face?"

"You look exhausted."

Kenma yawned. "Maybe I'm a bit tired."

"You should sleep for a bit."

"But we're in the middle of a movie."

"Yes." Kuroo glanced up at the tv. "A movie that we can rewatch whenever we want. So lay your head back down and sleep."

"Fine. But only because you're bossy and I don't feel like arguing with you."

"Whatever you have to tell yourself."

With a quiet huff, Kenma layed his head back on Kuroo's lap and pulled a blanket over himself. He fell asleep to Kuroo running fingers through his hair and humming to him.
