ONE All About Ice Cream
If she were sentenced to having one last meal before the apocalypse swallowed the earth whole, Amelia would have ice cream. It's not a meal, it's a dessert, and Margot wouldn't get tired of scolding her for eating ice cream before any of her other real meals. But where would the fun be if she couldn't eat it whenever she wanted to?
Ice cream was one of the few things Amelia liked holding onto from her childhood. She'd remember when Margot would make homemade ice cream from scratch. Vanilla and cookie flavored. It was delicious, and Amelia couldn't help but sneak into the kitchen to steal some more. Margot's motherly heart would let it slide most of the time. Her temper would soften upon seeing the girl's bright eyes and smile when eating ice cream.
Anytime the ice cream truck would stroll by, Amelia would take a peak sitting on the couch by the window. She'd watch as the kids in the neighborhood would run up to the truck, crumpled dollar bills in their small hands and smiles from ear to ear. It was a feeling many children loved. And Amelia wished for her to be one of those kids someday. Thankfully her mother was skilled in the kitchen (unlike her, she was better at baking instead) and granted her biggest wish; Ice cream!Margot cried. She sobbed uncontrollably that evening in her bathroom. She couldn't believe the idiot of a monster they lived with didn't allow her to experience it. And she was impotent about it.
But whenever she didn't have any more ingredients to make ice cream, she'd wrap the girl up in a coat and a scarf, put on her snow boots, and take her walking to a nearby mall where a famous ice cream parlor stood. Of course, the idiot of a monster mentioned wasn't notified about it.
So it remained tradition. Margot would take Amelia out every once in a while against Igor's wishes, all for the sake of the girl. Those moments were forged into memories Amelia swore to keep locked away in her heart. But God knows what kind of trouble Margot could've gotten herself in if said monster found out, but she didn't regret seeing the delight on her daughter's face.
Amelia locked her bike in the rack after she pulled up to the mall. Starcourt. It was apparently a new mall in town, and now one of the few malls Amelia had ever gone to.
She felt she deserved a big cup of ice cream after a hardworking evening of moving boxes around, organizing, cleaning, and not getting the groceries! But, ice cream during summer? She would not have it any other way.
She sighed as she dug for money in her pockets. A frown appeared on her face after revealing her findings. A very crumpled bill and a couple of pennies. Great. No money for groceries.
She huffed, glancing at the money in her palm. Enough for ice cream, though. She shoved the money back inside her pockets and happily strolled inside the mall, ignoring what future words Margot had for her.
