EIGHTEEN 1-800-I-Like-You
Basketball. Cheering. Loud music. Excited students. Lucas Sinclair, and a final opportunity. He scored— brought victory to Hawkins High. Amelia couldn't be more happy for the boy, she could tell by his face he didn't believe he had succeeded himself.
Amelia Bloom caught herself lying after having said she didn't like basketball. After seeing the priceless look on Steve's face after Lucas scored the last point, she realized their date had been worth the shot. Joy coursed through her veins, despite it having become so foreign to her. She cherished every second of it.
It had been a great distraction for her.
But she had no time to think about Lucas Sinclair— or anything for that matter— when Steve dragged her to his car and didn't speak a word as he did so. Despite Amelia's protests to understand what he was doing, he wore a secretive smile.
Five minutes into the car drive, she had turned in her seat and studied his poker face. "What are you up to, Harrington?" No answer. She sighed. She slumped back into her seat as her eyes drifted to the endless trees surrounding them. "You know, if my mother finds out you're kidnapping me, she'll never allow you to see me ever again— let alone, allow me to ever have a boyf—" She shut her mouth instantly, hoping he hadn't caught what she said. That's perfect, Amelia.
"Might've talked to her about it," He shrugged it off. He barely spared a glance at her but noticed her shocked expression. Before she could argue with him, he recalled what she had said before. "You were saying," He trailed off. "Your mom wouldn't allow you to have a... what— what were you saying?" He teased.
He obviously noticed what she had been going on about and he wouldn't let her off easy. It was so naive of Amelia to think he wouldn't. She looked like a deer caught in headlights as she avoided his eyes. She truly hadn't realized her mouth moved faster than the words that crossed her head, and somehow nearly dropped the word boyfriend on him.
A word she had feared to hear, a word she had grown tired of thinking about, especially when she didn't know where her feelings for him stood. An oh-so-taunting word that could easily make her world collapse.
"Friends! She won't allow me to have friends if I don't follow curfew." She played it off. She gulped down her nerves and thankfully he only hummed in response. If he were to push it any further, she would quite frantically avoid him for the rest of her life.
The moment made time tick faster and soon, she was being pulled out of his car by none other than his smug self. He led her into the woods, where the trees seemed to welcome them and the moon highlighted the path for them the further they walked.
