The morning sun was bright as ever, shining down on the kingdom as they began to prepare for the big celebration that would take place at noon. Sol was wearing a satin gold ballgown with a tight gold corset that had white pearls throughout, and on the bottom of the ballgown was aligned flowers from gold sequence along the edges.
"Do I really have to wear this? It is too tight" Sol was standing in front of her body length mirror watching the girls get her ready. Brushing through her hair, one of the ladies picked up the golden crown that sat on the dresser, placing it on top of the princess's hair. "This is rather heavy, you try wearing it" As Sol began to reach for the crown that was delicately placed on her head, the servant grabbed her hand.
"My lady, please do not remove your crown. It will mess your hair up" The lady servants in the castle wore light blue dresses along with a white apron, always keeping their hair pulled back by the yellow hair bandana they wore. "Today is your birthday, please be on your best behavior" The servant talking before the Princess was one of Sol's friends that she used to secretly play with in the halls of the castle when she was younger. "I hear, you may even meet the future king" The servant reluctantly said, "Please do be nice."
"No one is going to tell me who I am going to marry" Sol stomped her foot, "I shall not marry that man, I don't care if mother wants me to, I am not going to do it." Sol walked away from the mirror she was standing in front of, "Mary" Sol turned back around, looking at her friend, "I want to see the night sky, sneak out with me tonight" Sol left her chambers after saying this, heading to the castle balcony, where she would be making her speech in front of the kingdom.
But far from the kingdom, where the dark sky stood day and night was Neoma, who was just waking up and being greeted by the elves who lived in the forest with her. On this day, she wore a black satin and lace corset with a dark blue top with a jeweled belt, the color of yellow and her black tulle ballgown skirt. Her midnight blue hair flowing down and her sapphire eyes glowed due to her pale skin. Neoma lived in a tall black brick castle that was surrounded by the tall trees of the woods.
"Good morning Neoma" An elf known as, Ravavaris greeted her as Neomi walked down the brick stairs of the forest castle, "I made a feast, for it is your sixteen birthday"
"My birthday?" Neoma smirked, "You are too kind" Neoma lived with three elves, Ravavaris who was a few years younger than Neoma, along with grandpa elf, Nailo and grandmother elf, Galanodel.
"Oh do not be so humble, my little moon" Grandma elf, Galanodel raised Neoma as one of her own, along with Ravavaris. She had long white hair that she braided to the side and wore a black satin dress that was rusted at the edges that fell to her ankles. That day, the elves were throwing Neoma a birthday celebration.
"The new moon will be out tonight" Neoma stated as she walked to the door.
"Now do not go running off tonight like you do every night, where do you even go?" Grandma Galanodel walked up to Neoma and held her hand, "We all worry for you, you never tell us anything."
Neoma was drawn to the Garden of the Datura flowers that lied deep in the forest, the only part of the woods where no trees stood. Every new moon and full moon, the moon flowers would be in full bloom as they glowed in the night.
Neoma was any easy going girl, who loved her alone time and even when around others, she would rarely say much. And when she did speak to the elves, her words either always had great meaning or a simple statement.
In the forest where Neoma lived, no sun ever appeared but this did not stop the elves from throwing a birthday celebration for the one who they called the 'queen of the forest'. It was different from the party that was being thrown by the kingdom that stood not too far away, there were no balloons or thousands of people who came to see her. But a few of the elves gathered in the forest castle, in the castle dining room table, where a three stacked birthday cake sat on. The elves cheered as Neoma blew out the sixteen candles on her birthday cake and after grandma Galanodel passed out the cake to each elf that joined the celebration that day.
"Well my dear, do you feel any older?" Galanodel asked Neoma as she handed her a piece of cake, "I wish your mother was here to see how beautiful her daughter is" Galanodel took a step back as she looked at the blue and black ballgown Neoma was wearing, "Where did you get such a lovely dress? I have never seen you wear a color like this before?" Galanodel was referring to the sun yellow chain that was between the corset and the bottom of the ballgown.
"I found it in my mother's closet" Neoma said as she was looking at the gown she was wearing. What she did not mention was she had found the dress folded in a box that was hidden in her mother's closet, with a note on top.
To my daughter,
I am sorry I could not raise you, for I knew before having you that I would never be able to spend a day by your side. By the time you find this note, I am guessing you are much older than just a child. I have sown this dress for you to wear on your sixteenth birthday. Someone who I loved very much had gifted me the yellow jewelry chain, in the middle lies a yellow diamond. I know the elves have taken good care of you, but do what I could not, and travel beyond the dark trees where I ran off to, hiding away from the outside world. My dear daughter, I know we have never meet but I made a mistake- that one day you will find out about, and when you do, please do not blame the other person, for they were scared just as I was.
When you finally see the sun, do not live another day without it.
Your mother,
Luna Moon.
