Your phone buzzed.

You checked it and saw a message from an unsaved contact, but you knew the number.

"Everything okay?" Bucky asked.

"Yeah, I gotta do a work thing" you said.

"Okay. Now?"

"Mhm. Shouldn't take too long."

"See you later. Bye doll."

"Bye baby" you smiled and kissed him quickly before leaving.

The message instructed you to go to the tower conference room, so that's what you did.

Inside, you saw Fury. But you also saw Clint and Natasha sitting with him.

"Little Barton" Fury greeted when you walked in.

"Fury... what's going on?"

"We need to talk. Take a seat."

You did as he said.

Fury leaned forward in his chair.

"You didn't tell me."

"For fucks sake, Clint!"

"Y/n, I would've found out anyway. You think you can keep a secret from me?"

"I've kept it a secret for ten months, I think I was doing pretty well..." you looked at Clint. "I can't believe you told him, you snitch."

"I'm sorry. He had the right to know" Clint sighed. "And he can help."

"How?"

"Your brother is trying to convince me to fire you" Fury explained.

"What?! Clint! Is that true?"

"No... Not exactly."

"We're discussing the idea of you... taking a break from work" Natasha added.

"Yeah, so that's not gonna happen."

"We all agree it would be a good idea if you had some time off."

"You all agree?" you questioned, glancing over at Fury. "Even you?"

"Undecided. You're one of my best agents Barton."

"Flattering."

"I'm not sure if I can lose you. But from what I've been told, that's going to happen anyway."

"So what? You do agree with them?"

"I'm getting another opinion."

"From who?"

"Stark."

"Are you shitting me?! No! Stark can not get a say in this! There is no way he's gonna be unbiased!"

"He'll be here in a minute so..."

"Nope. Not gonna happen" you got up to leave.

You swung open the door, but to your utter disappointment, Stark was just about to come in.

"Sup ass-head."

"Oh fuck off" you moaned and went to sit back down.

"You needed to see me?" Tony looked at Fury as he took a seat also.

"We need your input on something" he replied.

"No we don't" you objected.

"About what?" Stark asked.

"Her."

You rolled your eyes.

"What about?"

"Her position on the team."

"Oh, easy. We don't need her. We can get rid of her. Please, let us get rid of her."

"See! I told you he was gonna be ridiculous about it!"

"You think you can go a while without her on the team?"

"Definitely. She's useless. We don't need her."

"Can you get someone else's opinion? This is so not fair."

"Why does she need to be laid off anyway?"

"I don't."

"It's a matter of health and safety" Clint explained.

"It's really not."

"Yeah, well, her chronic laziness has always been a problem. You're only realising it now?"

"Will you shut up!"

"Uh, no. We haven't even discussed your habit to be so painfully annoying it makes people wants to kill themselves..."

"God! Tony! No! ... I have cancer! That what you wanna hear?!"

There was half a moment of silence; Tony processed what you just said.

"Are you kidding? That's not funny."

"No! It's really not!"

Not a word from the others.

"Do you know what it's like to have a timer on your life? To have the knowledge that you're probably not going to make it to the next month? No! None of you do! None of you understand! And that is why none of you get a say with what I do in the VERY little time I have left!" you yelled as loudly as you could manage.

You stormed out before anyone said anything.
