Madelyn Brenner despite her being the head scientist's daughter, her abilities have cost her her chance at a normal life. A free life. From the age of seven and onward, Madelyn has been a
"patient" in Hawkins Laboratory. Her father is always very patient with her and kind, he spends day and night working to understand her but also control her. And she let him. It was an easy choice, particularly when he is her life. Madelyn's mother had died during her birth and she hasn't known anything else. He has given her what he saw could be a normal life or as normal with abilities was, in her eyes, her father exceeded all expectations. The younger Brenner had noticed that it was strange how no children ever came to play, no one paid her much attention other than her papa.
Which starts the list of reasons for her loyalty.
Yet, the moment certain energy could be felt by Madelyn of another soul like hers in the lab while Madelyn was walking around will forever change how she views the lab and her papa.
"Energy?" Papa walked over to me slowly, blocking my view of the boy.
He is still asleep. Even unconscious I can feel the level of power he holds. It calls to me, and I don't know why.
Stepping forward, Papa grabbed my arm.
"He has energy, Madelyn? Is that what you are saying?" Raising my head I looked at Papa in questioning. Does he not also feel that? It's like even from my room I would be able to feel him. Feel him in my head. Feel his presence. He's just there.
"Madelyn, why don't we go back to your room," the heart monitor was starting to go faster.
He's waking up.
"But-, "I was cut off by a sharp pain in my neck.
"Papa?"
My vision started to get blurry as I could feel my body swaying back and forth. Papa is stroking my hair and the last thing I see is Papa turning around to face the mysterious captivating boy.
Madelyn was taken back to her room and placed on her bed to lie. Multiple locks were added to her door as she slept and she remained in her partially comatose state for many days.
In the room three doors down on the left in the hallway just next to Madelyn's the boy, Henry, woke up fully to see Dr. Martin Brenner. This was the man that his mother was trying to send him to, he just knew it.
Yanking on the wires that held him down.
"Hello Henry," Brenner said to the boy who clearly interested both him and his daughter to no end.
"It's alright, I'm here to help you. You can call me Papa."
"I can help you to understand what you can do, I have experience with people like you."
"People like me," Henry repeated the words the doctor in front of him said.
People like you.
What?
Different?
Capable?
Powerful?
Superior?
"There are no people like me," Henry told him looking the doctor straight in the eye.
"There are actually," the scientist smiled in pride when he thought of his daughter. She was like this boy who saw himself as more capable.
"There is one here," Henry's blank face hid the confusion in his head quite well.
