Falling in love was not haram. What you did with it, made it halal or haram. Those who treated their haram love by spending time with them, were in reality only increasing themselves in sadness. A haram relationship was like standing on broken glass. If you stayed, you would keep hurting. If you walked away, you would hurt but eventually you would heal.
That's why. That's what I was doing.
Exam was around the corner and I wanted to study but I was not being able to concentrate. All alone in my room, I reached the window and managed to open it one-handed. Cold air blasted in, and I rubbed my hands over my arms for warmth.Winter's coming.
Mid-afternoon sun shone with a cold, golden light on me. Trees, leaves now gone for the winter, lined the parking lot and paths leading out to the Institute. The branches of a
scraggly bush that had gone dormant for the winter. The dorm was quiet since it was weekend and everybody was either went out or studied inside silently.About ten minutes after breathing in the cold air, I decided to clean up and take a shower. After that, I was in my room, studying. I realized how badly I did want to learn, how I wanted to prove myself to the board, to Aisha, to Khalid, and to everyone else. I've succeed in the language test, I'd do the same for the exam.
On the next week, I arrived at the Institute, meeting nervous faces everywhere. That could only mean one thing ... final exams. Final exams were stressful. Even if you've studied for them. I could certainly relate.
As days went by the exams continued to get a grip of me. It's not really a bad thing. Eventually, I could concentrate on my study, no more distraction. When the exam week was over, I could finally relax for a while. I went shopping with Aisha and Andrei, hanging out with the Indonesian awardees, visiting Daniel and Marina, also making time for myself.
Another week gone by and still everything felt normal.
On the last day of this semester, Mrs. Padma called me to her office. My stomach twisted nervously, but I found myself strode off across the hallway. I felt surge of annoyance. She'd given me no idea what I might expect once I arrived.I stopped, right in front of Mrs.Padma's office. I took my surrounding, then knocked the door twice. Mrs.Gerigan came out, gesturing me to come in. As the door closed behind us, I found Mrs. Padma sitting in a large chair behind her desk. She gestured to the chair across from her. I walked over, giving her a small bow.
"Sit down, Miss Darmawan."
I sat down, watching her.
"I've seen your language proficiency test result. You've accomplished." Mrs. Padma spoke
"Yes, Ma'am." I said
"I must say I'm impressed that you attain B2 level in Romanian. You've proven yourself, after your early inadequacy."
"I wouldn't have done it without Domnule Amar's help, and yours." I said.
His name felt like a cold water, splashed right on my face.
Mrs. Padma nodded. She grabbed a stack of paper on her left and started to flip the sheets.
"I also have received your report card. "
I nearly flew out of my chair. I haven't even seen them myself. How could she find it first? Then I reminded myself that Mrs.Padma was the Dean of my faculty. Report card was a piece of cake for her. I swallowed.
