the voice in his head screamed.
The wind whipped past his ears at a pace he was too tired to estimate.
When was the last time he slept? when was the last time he ate? It didn't matter.
Nothing mattered with all that was at stake. He was determined to do anything in his power to avoid the situation that daunted over him.
The death of a legend wouldn't be his fault.
The death of his mentor wouldn't be on him.
The blood of his father wouldn't be on his hands. Not if he had anything to say about it.
Keep. Going.
Tug whimpered, which pulled achingly at his heart. He couldn't even remember how long he'd be riding, he was so avid on running himself into the ground riding to save the life of one of his friends that he forgot about the consequences it would have on the other. He could take a short break, right? Right?
He collapsed on the soft ground, watching through dozing eyes as the horses grazed on dead grass. The sound of the crunchy plants was oddly enchanting, the feel of the ground beneath him seemed to get softer the longer he lay on it. Before he knew it, Will had drifted off to a dreamless slumber.
When he woke, the moon was already high in the sky. The sun was hardly setting when he had fallen asleep. His thoughts were going too fast to register anything as he scrambled from the ground, and hastily gathered his few belongings.
As he once again set out, he pushed back the ever present fear of failure.
Keep going.
The mantra repeated.
Keep going.
The sound of the hooves thumping on the path numbed his mind.
For Halt.
He was getting closer by the kilometer. Malcolm would have the answers. The wise healer would know what to do. Horace is with Halt, he isn't dying anytime soon. Malcolm will save him. It will be fine.
Just keep going.
