15 - mama

When we got back to my place, I ordered Tae to surprise Liam. Because a smile on my son's face was something I hadn't seen for a while and I felt more than guilty about it.

I opened Liam's door and saw him playing tea party with his stuffed animals.  Liam saw me and broke into a smile. Though his smile didn't seem so genuine anymore.

" Hi papa." He ran towards me and cuddled my legs. " Did you miss- "

I interrupted myself as I heard Liam sniff me. He looked up and met my eyes with the happiest look I had seen in a while.  His eyes were a shining doe and  his smile seemed beyond genuine.

"  You hugged mama didn't you ?" He happily asked, causing me to tilt my head in confusion.  Why was he suddenly bringing up  his mother, God did he really miss her that much ? But what the hell did he mean by I hugged her? The only person I had hugged was-

" Yes, he did." Tae said, walking into view. Liam' s eyes started to water and he ran into Tae's arms.  Tae picked him up and cuddled him into his chest. A smile spread across my face as I heard my son genuinely laugh.

Then it hit me again. The only person I had hugged was Tae. Could it be that Liam could sense Tae's scent the way I could? There was no way he would have been able to tell I had any contact with Tae. But after he sniffed me he admittedly knew who I had hugged. Maybe I wasn't crazy and Tae was actually doing something to me. 

" Did you miss me ?" Tae asked Liam. Liam sniffled and went silent. I walked up to them and wondered what was wrong.

"What's wrong ?" Tae asked, practically reading my mind. Liam looked up and made eye contact with Tae. I could see the familiar look of hurt and betrayal in his eyes. 

" You promised me." Liam said, causing Tae to freeze. The look in his eyes flickered and he couldn't bring himself to look at Liam. His scent became intoxicating and I had a feeling that I had to protect him from something.

But who was I supposed to protect him from ? My own son?

" I'm sorry. I was being selfish. I shouldn't have made a promise that I couldn't keep."  There was a concerning amount of sadness in his voice and I clenched my fists to keep myself from holding his trembling hand.

" Mama, Just don't leave me." Liam whispered and Tae blushed. His scent began to overflow and his eyes began to light up.  He looked so happy to be called mama and still a nauseating feeling began to form in my gut.

" Liam don't call him that."

" It's fine, I like it."  Tae admitted, blushing even brighter when he said those words. But at that moment no amount of intoxicating scent could stop me from worrying about what was happening.

" No he can't call you that, It will just confuse him!"  I said, raising my voice. Liam buried his face in Tae's chest and snuggled himself even closer. ' Shit I forgot not to raise my voice near him.'

  "So what ?" Tae quietly questioned, almost as if he dreaded my response.

" I just don't want him to start thinking of you as a mother 
."  I admitted. If Liam started to see Tae as a mother, then he surely wouldn't be able to handle the pain of losing him.

" Why?"

" Because I won't live to see him lose another mother."
