Namjoon stood on the balcony of his suite, looking over his kingdom as it twinkled into view in the moonlight as if it were battling with the stars above. The wind that nipped off the water and traveled across the kingdom brought an unseasonable chill with it. His mundane routine had been the same even after the arrival of his cousin Seokjin a few days ago. However, it bothered him that he hadn't heard or seen from him in a few days. Turning from where he stood on the balcony, he looked at his sleeping wife. She too had, had her own worries over the last few days when she hadn't heard from Henley. They had called the police only to find Henley's apartment ransacked. The authorities had told Namjoon that when it had been originally reported that Seokjin had called them to call off any potential search of the apartment at first. Namjoon was perturbed by this information. That was not like Seokjin at all, and now with him gone, he couldn't help but to think that something had happened.
Stealing back inside, Namjoon knew that he couldn't just sit around and wait anymore. He had to go and do something, even if that something was just going to Henley's apartment to look for any clues the police might have overlooked. Namjoon made sure to dress in semi-casual apparel to better blend in; tucking a portable weapon into his inner breast pocket. Just as he was about to shut his wardrobe from changing out of his night clothes, he heard muttering on the bed behind him. Turning, he saw Lianna roll over in her sleep; eyes groggily peeping open.
"Love?..."
Namjoon smiled softly, walking over to the bed to bend down and press a kiss to her forehead.
"Go back to sleep, alright? I'm just going out for a bit. Everything is okay."
He moved to grab the blanket, tucking it around her so that she let out a hum of contentment; slipping back into the land of sleep. Namjoon moved to leave the room after, slipping down semi-illuminated hallways and past the guards that patrolled them. The guards didn't try to stop him from leaving as he walked into the courtyard where the training had been held earlier. He opted to walk to Henley's apartment, wanting to try to use the night air to calm his roaring thoughts.
Within a half hour, he had walked a small portion of his sleeping kingdom and came upon Henley's darkened apartment. It looked even more foreboding in the dark; caution tape flipping back and forth in the wind. His eyes went up to her window, seeing that they were darkened but the light of a few neighboring apartments was reflected in the glass. Namjoon moved towards the door, tugging it open and slipping up the stairs. When he reached the landing where Henley's apartment door was, he saw that it was only secured by another set of caution tape; this time fashioned like a 'X'. He moved towards it, ducking under it as he entered the apartment.
The whole place was a wreck. The police hadn't minced words when they said that. He went carefully from room to room as he looked at the chaos; his eyes taking in the especially wrecked state of the bathroom.
"What happened here?" asked Namjoon out loud to himself. "And where did Seokjin and Henley go?"
As he turned to leave the bathroom, he froze. His hand went towards the portable weapon in his pocket. He swore he just heard something out in the other room. Namjoon went slowly towards the exit to the bathroom, pressing his back against the wall as he listened to the silence again for any sort of noise that would indicate to him that someone else was there. His fingers slipped into the pocket to dig out his weapon as he waited for an additional sound, flicking the prism dagger to the ready.
"Ah. So we have company," he heard a silky voice say.
He gripped the weapon tighter in his hand as he heard the woman's voice approaching the bathroom. She started to hum which caused him to loosen his grip on his weapon. He arched a brow in confusion as he tried to keep his fingers gripped tightly about it but failed the more the humming went on. He didn't understand why the humming caused the resolve he felt to start to slip away. It was almost hypnotic.
"There you are," said a feminine voice near his head. She reached out a hand to put it on the hand holding the weapon, letting it slip out of his grasp completely so that it fell to the floor. "You don't need that, silly. I'm not going to hurt you."
Even though Namjoon knew that he should fight against her words, he found himself unable to. He was throughly convinced by her. He looked at her as she motioned to a man still lingering in the hallway. Technically there were two men standing in the hallway, looking as if they were her shadow. One was holding a leash where a huge dog was growling. As Namjoon stepped out into the hallway with the woman's hand on his shoulder, he realized that his original assumption was wrong. That wasn't a dog. It was a wolf.
"Come with us," said the woman as she kept her hand delicately on Namjoon's shoulder as she guided him back down the hallway. "It's not safe for you here, your highness."
"Arielle," came a man's voice behind her. Namjoon turned to see it was the man holding the leash of the wolf. "He has caught a scent."
"Then follow it," said Arielle as she kept her hand on Namjoon's shoulder. "We have to find where my precious wolf went. I'll join you shortly."
The man nodded as he let the wolf led him out of the apartment. Arielle turned her full attention back to Namjoon then; a smile slipping across her lips as she looked at him. Namjoon knew that he should be doing something, but he couldn't bring himself to. She was humming again, and it was enough to quell his inner calls to action.
"Don't worry, your highness. Everything is okay. Just sleep for now."
Namjoon stifled a yawn then as the apartment about him began to tilt back and forth as if he were on a seesaw. The exhaustion that swept over him followed immediately after Arielle's words. There was power behind everything she was saying. He felt his feet betraying him as he leaned off to the side; his eyes barely able to stay open. The other man that had been standing with Arielle moved to catch Namjoon before he made contact with the floor; the night surrounding him completely.
