Y/n had no idea what the little heart on the calendar was meant to symbolise, and it was stressing him out.
It had to mean something. There couldn't just be a random doodle on the calendar, but he was sure that he didn't have any other plans for the day. Hell, y/n was positive he hadn't planned anything, or otherwise he wouldn't be idly flitting around the house all day.
Jack was always booked and busy with something, whether it be going to town meetings, cooking up something nice for a sick neighbour, or even just heading to somebody's house for a general gossip. It was a classic suburban life, constantly busy, yet he didn't have a worry in the world.
There was nothing for him to do but wait for Bucky to call, and figure out what the heart meant. He'd flicked through the newspaper to check if there was a show he wanted to watch on television that night, he'd rummaged through the house for any sort of little note, and he'd even asked his neighbour, Agnes, for help. Nothing worked.
So, y/n had decided to give up, currently sat on the couch with magazines laid out across his lap, a disheartened look on his face. He hated giving up, it made him feel so, so guilty. Fred and Jack were the most put-together couple in the town. They couldn't ruin their image. What if it was something really important? What if there was a big event happening in the town tonight, and they didn't show up? What if people were relying on them? God, it was too stressful.
Y/n took a deep breath, trying his hardest to clear his thoughts and focus on the magazine. He was going to focus on trying to find any tips for cleaning a vibranium arm, just like how he had been that morning. It was an impossible find. Completely impossible. But Bucky always said that y/n had so much determination that he could talk him into believing an apple was an orange, and he was probably right.
Every single advertisement was the same, even in the five different magazines laid out in front of her, it was the same loop of five sparkly things for sale. Y/n was sure that he could recite them by now.
The first was a bubble bath solution named 'Hydra Soak', for 'a bath that you'll never want to leave!'.
A clothes company named 'Bubba's Best'. It always had the same photo. A little boy in a yellow knitted vest holding a man in a suit's hand, yet the man in the suit's face was never in frame.
A fancy perfume named 'Zemo', with 'a smell so amazing it could warp any man's mind!'.
A paper towel company named 'Lagos', for 'the messes you didn't mean to make'.
And finally, a watch for sale named 'Romanoff'. The slogan being 'to make sure you always keep your promise when you say 'see you in a minute'!'.
But, just as y/n mindlessly flicked past another 'Bubba's Best' advertisement, the idea finally came to him. It was right there on the page.
It was their anniversary!
That had to be it. The magazine page was covered in little hearts, identical to the one on the calendar. Y/n must've been trying to keep a secret about his anniversary plans for Bucky, and had completely forgotten himself.
He couldn't help but laugh a little, mostly out of relief, but also out of surprise, shocked that they'd both forgotten such an important day. His eyes stayed fixed on the page, determined to come up with the best anniversary evening ever. From candles to chocolate covered strawberries, y/n was going to do everything.
