Raelyn's P.O.V.

I opened the note and read it.

Raelyn, I want you to know that different is okay. I didn't take the first chance I had to tell you that, but I will not pass this chance up. Call me?

At the bottom he included his number. I was in awe. I can not believe that a nobody like me has a chance to be friends with Jack Gilinsky. Before I had a chance to say anything Amber snatched the note out of my hand.

"Holy shit, Rae. Do you know what this means?" She practically screamed.

"Shhhhhhh! People are staring and uh yea I get to be his friend hopefully." I smiled.

"Pshhhhh fuck no you get to be way more than that."

"What? No no no. I am not going to be his girlfriend."

"Ugh. Why the fuck not?" Amber gets frustrated when she knows that I think I'm not good enough for anyone. "Raelyn you are perfectly qualified to be his girlfriend, but whatever be his friend. I'm just saying whether you like it or not that, my friend, is an invite straight into Mrs. Gilinsky world."

"Sure whatever. Okay lets go get our boards I want to get in the water before it gets dark." We headed back to the truck and grabbed our boards and wet suits. Even though it was pretty warm for the beginning of April, its still too cold for just bikinis.

"The water feels so good!" I exclaim as we paddle out to the surf.

"Yea I can't believe it's April." She responded.

We surfed all the way until after sundown. When it became completely black we messed around in the water for a while and then paddled in.

"So should we get some dinner. I'm starving, we skipped lunch." Amber asked.

"In-N-Out?" I could tell I read her mind because a grin formed on her face.

"Duh!" We ran towards the lifeguard tower where we put our things. When we got there I heard faint screams off in the distance, like little kids playing around. Wait no not little kids immature boys, yea. Oh boy.

"Boys are so immature." I say referencing the boys. It sounded like they were coming this way. Great. As they got closer I could make out figures. Wait, no it can't be, oh shit. I look at Amber and she notices them too. Her elbow starts jabbing into my side. "Ow stop it." I say barely above a whisper.

"Raelyn, Rae-Rae-Raelyn" She sing-songs while still jabbing me in the side.

"Okay we're going this way." I grab her arm and pull her up the beach from the water that we were walking along side of. My attempt to avoid the boys fails when I hear an all too familiar voice call my name. Shit.

Jack's P.O.V.

We ran out, down the pier and to the beach. Free at last. Being cooped up in that place with a bunch of girls all over you all day is fun, but after all day of that, I just want to run. We were so loud, but can you blame us? As we were running I noticed two girls walking down the beach with their surfboards tucked under their arms. All of the sudden one girl grabbed the other's hand and started dragging her up the beach. I knew it was her immediately.

"Guys, you know that girl I told you about? Well there she goes," I motion toward them, "Can we bring her and her friend with us to eat?" They all say yea like I shouldn't even have to ask the question, so I start running towards them and call out her name. She stops and turns around.

"Uh, hi Jack." She shyly says.

"Hey, um so we were going to get something to eat and were wondering if you and Amber wanted to come?"

"Of course we would." Amber answers for her. "So where are we going and we'll follow you."

"Or I could walk you to your car you can drop your boards and things off and then we'll walk to our car and drive there together. We were going to get something to eat and then come back here to eat." I say and they nod in agreement.

"So where are we going to eat?" Raelyn asks as we walk into the parking lot.

"I was thinking In-N-Out." I smiled good she's actually talking. Her and Amber look at each other and start giggling. Oh god that laugh it kills me. "What?"

"We were going to eat there actually." Raelyn says giggling.

"Oh. Yea everyone loves In-N-Out." We get to a truck and she pulls out her keys. "Woah nice truck!"

"Thanks!" Raelyn exclaims. "It's my baby my dad fixed it up for me." I love how she's into her truck. They put their boards in the back, tie them up and we walk to our car. Good thing we brought the SUV, my jeep wouldn't have fit everyone. Cameron and Nash sit in the front and Hayes sits in the very back. Just as I was about to crawl back there with him Johnson goes back there and closes the seat.

"Sorry no more room." Hayes and Johnson start laughing. I just roll my eyes and crawl over to the window. The the girls get in and Raelyn sits next to me. Good.

Raelyn's P.O.V.

Fucking Johnson. Sorry, I love you Johnson, but why didn't you let Jack back there, oh well. This is going to be a long car ride. I sit down and scoot as close to Amber as I can get, I don't want to make him uncomfortable. The beginning of the car ride was very uncomfortable and silent, until Hayes decides to open his mouth.

"Lets play a game." Hayes says. "This silence is killing me."

"How about the you all tell me what you want game." Cameron says as he pulls up to the drive through window. "Amber? Raelyn?" We tell him what we want and Jack starts conversation.

"So..." He says.

"So..." I mock him. "Sorry I suck at starting conversations." I say looking down.

"That's okay. So you surf?"

"Yea we learned the summer after eighth grade. We didn't have much to do and we live this close to the beach so we thought why not. I'm sorry I'm talking too much."

"No no, that's good I want to know. You read the note right?" I nodded and smiled a little, "Yea different is good. I want to know what makes you different."

"Okay. So you get to ask the questions." I say.

"How about I ask the questions next Friday. The rest of the details you'll have to find out using that number you were given." He says as we pull back up to the beach. My smile grows. We all decided that it was probably best to just go home because it was getting a little cold. I climbed out of the car and turned around and started walking towards the truck. "Oh and Raelyn?"

"Yea?" I ask.

"Bring that smile with you too." He says with a smile. I swear my smile got ten times bigger.
