Chapter-21

(SAM)

It's the last day of our tenth final exam and I haven't talked to Katie for sometime now. We are given different halls for exam and so we hardly see each other but sometimes I manage to get a glimpse of her but couldn't talk to her due to the crowd she gets lost. Everyone keeps talking about Katie leaving for somewhere but I haven't had the chance to ask her anything. May be she planned to go somewhere during break. I guess I'll call her up and ask her to meet me somewhere before she sets off for her trip. Now atleast I can meet her like that since we have been friends for a while now. We use to chat in Facebook during weekends and we even exchanged our numbers but still I haven't call her up because I didn't want to be too obvious. But I guess now I have a reason to call her. We haven't talked to each other for few days and she is leaving for vacation to somewhere so I can ask her about that too. This is good I will call her tomorrow and meet her.

I waited eagerly for the next day to arrive. And when finally it arrives I can't wait for the right time to call her up. I think I should ask her to meet up for lunch because dinner would be little too intimate and maybe she won't come if I ask her to meet for dinner. Finalizing myself that I will ask for lunch I punch her number. After the fourth ring she answered.

"Hello Katie Smith"

"Hey it's me Sam" the line got completely silent as if she even stopped breathing hearing my name.

"Hey Sam, what's up?" she asked after a brief silence.

"Nothing...I mean I have something to ask...how are you doing?" Did I just say that? I called her up to ask how she is doing?? Crap!

"Well I am doing fine Sam. How about you?" she said.

" 'M doing good. Listen I wanted to ask if we could catch up for lunch?" I blurt out.

"Huh?!" She said again after a brief silence.

"Would you have lunch with me today?" I said but she didn't reply anything. "Hey don't take it otherwise. You know....I asked since we are friends and heard that you are leaving for vacation. So..." I trailed off more confused than when I called her.

"No...no..that's not the thing. It's just that Jack and I we were just leaving to go to this place and I don't think we will be back by late afternoon" she said.

"Oh! Alright. That's okay. May be another time." I said obviously nothing else to say, right?

"Hey we are having dinner together tonight, me, Jack and Olivia. Why don't you join us?" she said.

"Well that would be good" I answer. Something is better than nothing right. I'll get to see her, talk to her and maybe she will stay with me since Jack and Olivia is going to be together. I smile, this is definitely going to be better than good.

"Okay then Thomsan's at 7" she said.

"Okay. See ya' " I said and hang up.

(KATIE)

"Why did you lie?" Jack asked looking at me from the corner of my bed.

We were packing, I mean I was packing and he was helping me. My flight is tomorrow.

"What do you mean?" I ask acting innocent.

"You told Sam that we are going somewhere when the truth is we are not going anywhere" He states still looking and scanning my face.

"I didn't lie to him, well not a total lie. I have things to do even though I don't have a place to go. I need to do all the packing. I am leaving tomorrow, remember?" I reply turning back to him.
