"Stay here until I get back."
"Why can't I just leave now?" Elsie tried to follow Faith's reasoning for bringing her back down to the basement. "I'm sorry but I don't think your plan is going to work."
Faith tucked a strand behind her ear and replied, "Trust me. You don't want to be up on the main floors. You'll definitely be found and you don't want to get caught because if you do..." Faith drew her thumb across her neck. "It's over. All of the entrances are guarded and locked. The alarm system around here is high tech so for you to get free on your own would be a miracle. Like I said, it's just safer to stay in here until we come get you. I know this place better than you do. I know where he stores his keys too."
Elsie furrowed her brows. "How?"
"I'm his maid."
Now it made sense to how she knew so many of his secrets again.
Faith reached inside of her pocket and showed Elsie a small phone. "Here. This is my work phone. I've already programmed my personal cell into the contacts so if our little plan doesn't go as follows then you can call me so we can set up another plan."
Elsie took the phone. "Thanks but could you explain the plan again. I guess I'm still confused as to how this is going to work."
Faith pursed her lips and stepped back. "Okay. The plan is that you will stack out here for one more hour. Mr. Stanton has most likely already been down here and he knows you're not in here anymore so his attention is on searching the rest of the premises. In the meantime, you stay safe in here while he's out there searching for you and I'll try to find one of Mr. Stanton's car keys to have Ollie sneak you out of here."
For some reason, Elsie did not have a good feeling about all of this. "But what if he comes back? What if he finds me waiting out here?"
"He won't. I promise." Faith seemed entirely too sure of herself and Elsie felt the uneasiness settled over her.
"He'll be back," Elsie whispered.
She knew he would come back. The abusers always do. It's like their lifeblood, the pain and suffering on their weaker subjects.
"Just have faith that he won't be and if you need to hide under the bed then do so until I come back in an hour. It's going to take us that long to find a car key and be able to sneak it out of his garage without being caught."
Elsie crossed her arms. "Why so long?"
Faith looked annoyed. "The man has at least ten or twelve cars and trucks parked outside in the triple-door detached garage roughly five minutes away from the home. Not to mention, he moves his keys around so much that it's hard to track where he's put them."
Elsie walked over to sit on the bed. She wanted to run and argue that this was a foolish plan but what good would it do to insult her only ally. At least Faith is willing to help her. Ollie, not so much, out of fear that he would lose his job.
