I decided to stop being such a bum and get out of bed be productive. Even though I felt like shit and looked it too.
I went out to lunch by myself and then thought about what else I could possibly do today. A trip to the pet store was the conclusion. Animals are stress-relievers. And I needed some stress relief.
Once I arrived there, I went straight to the bunnies, and picked one up, cradling it like a baby and making childish noises to the little ball of fuzz.
I smiled down at it then put it down before walking up to the glass windows where the puppies were on display and asking the lady there if I could get it out to hold it.
I went to one of the interaction stalls and waited for her to bring the puppy to me. She put the tiny animal in my arms and left me to it.
I petted away and played with it until I came to a conclusion: I want it.
I didn't care if it cost my entire paycheck, I wanted it.
I asked another lady that worked there if I could buy it, she gladly nodded and went to the back to get some stuff ready for the puppy. She came back with a carrier and a basket with some essentials in it and brought me to the counter to get me checked out.
I put the puppy in the crate and carried it out.
On my way to the car I spotted Luke. I panicked and began to walk faster until I got to my car. I safely put the crate into the back of my car and ran to the drivers side, but by then, Luke had already noticed me and was running over to my car quickly.
I gave up at trying to get away and just let Luke do what he wanted to do. He slowed as he got near to me and looked at me as if it was the first time.
"No need to rush," He said calmly.
"Actually there is," I muttered and as if on cue, the puppy whimpered from the back seat.
"Is that a puppy?" He asked, glancing at the car behind me.
I nodded silently, looking up at him through my lashes since I had been looking at the ground. He met my gaze and his eyes immediately softened, not that they weren't already soft.
"May I ask why?" He asked.
"It was too adorable to leave it there," I stated with a slight shrug.
He sighed and smiled, "can I go home with you?"
I gave him a weird look and frowned. He noticed and his smile dropped too.
"I'm not gonna do anything, just talk," He explained quietly.
I sighed reluctantly and agreed to it.
On the ride home, Luke insisted on holding the puppy in his lap as we drove and I wasn't really in the mood to protest so I allowed it at the moment. But I was glad I did because Luke with puppies is the most adorable thing on planet Earth. He talks in a baby voice and makes kissing noises at it and pets it constantly while commenting on how cute he is as the puppy licks Luke anywhere and everywhere.
When we got home, Luke carried the puppy while I luged the crate and all of the essentials inside.
"Thanks for all if the help, Luke, I appreciate it," I commented sarcastically.
He rolled his eyes but kept his focus on the puppy.
"Goddamn, don't burn a hole in my puppy by starring at it," I warned playfully and smacked the back of Luke's head like Gibs would to Denozo(idk how to spell it).
I took the puppy from him and settled myself on the couch with him in my lap, he put his paws on my shoulders and brought his head up to lick the tip of my nose repeatedly, causing me to giggle.
Luke took the seat next to me, our thighs touching as Luke rested his arm on the back of the couch and watching me play with the puppy.
I turned my head to meet Luke's gaze, I've never seen so much adoration in his eyes than right now. "You're just too cute," He stated.
I smiled and turned my attention back to the animal in my hands.
"He looks like a Skidder to me," I stated, referring to a possible name for the small dog.
"Yeah, that's about right," Luke agreed.
I nodded and looked the puppy in the eyes, "Skidder it is."
Skidder wiggled out of my grip and jumped down onto the floor next to me. Me and Luke set up the bowls and bed for the puppy to have and made sure that everything was put away that he could possibly chew up or eat. We laid the puppy toys next to his bed for later, because as soon as we put the bed down, he was out like a light.
