I was having a team meeting today so I left her at home for awhile. I was sitting through the meeting as usual, but didn't care to listen to coach. My mind was focused on her. The coach yelled at me, "Hemmings get it together or else I'll find a new star to replace you next season."
I snapped out of my daze and my eyes met his frustrated ones, "Sorry coach."
I continued to listen to the plans for next year intently when a certain sentence stuck out.
"We will be kicking some players off the team to make room for new freshmen, watch your backs, see you next time," The coach spoke. I couldn't help but be angry with him. These boys are amazing and he's willing to give them up for some new guy who probably hasn't even heard of hockey. That pissed me off.
"Coach isn't that a little unfair?" I spoke up.
"Life isn't fair Luke, you have to give other guys a chance, you can't be the hot-shots forever, you know?" he validated his point. He was right but that still didn't fix the problem here.
"But these guys are great, if you give them up for some chump then we'll suck dic-" I couldn't finish my last word because he cut me off.
"Don't even say it, Luke," He warned.
I growled at him and walked out of the room, stomping to my car and speeding home. I unlocked the front door and marched into the house, my steps were super over exaggerated.
"Lukey!" she chimed as she caught sight of me, I ignored her and plopped down on the couch.
I could see her shoulders slump down a little from the corner of my eye and I turned a little to see her face, her lips started to quiver and she furrowed her eye brows at me, angrily. She scampered off down the hall and I could hear the door slam. I stood up and sighed, walking to the closed bedroom door. I lean my forehead against the door without making a noise and listened to the silence.
I heard the bathroom door creak open a little, and her small footsteps walking across the wooden floor of the bedroom. I imagined her shoulder slumped down and her watery eyes, I took a deep breath at the though.
I knocked on the door softly, waiting for a response.
"Go away," She said from the other side, her voice was distant and vulnerable and she had to be crying.
"Princess can I come in?" I asked softly.
"No," She stated.
I ignored her statement and walked in anyways, she was under the covers and I could see her small body shaking slightly as she took in a breath.
I sat down on the end of the bed and rested one of my hands on her foot that was covered with a blanket. She jerked away from my touch and curled up in a small ball.
"You obviously aren't in the mood so just go away Luke," She whispered, pleadingly.
"Im sorry, I just had a rough meeting. I didn't mean to ignore you like that," I assured her.
She sat up a little and looked at me with her puffy eyes, "You did mean it."
"I promise I didn't," I whispered desperately.
She blinked and a few tears rolled down her cheeks. She shook her head and crawled back under the covers, trying to hide from me.
"Princess," I sighed and poked her body.
"Leave me alone," She pleaded.
"No," I stated with a soft tone in my voice.
I laid down next to her and pulled her form closer to mine, she tried to get out of my grip but I was far stronger than she was so she gave up. She laid there without saying a word.
"Breath, Babygirl," I cooed since she was holding in a long breath.
She exhaled and relaxed into my arms, she knew she couldn't be mad at me.
