Chapter 34: Jealous Hayasaka

The next day, OC had gotten ready for school and stood outside of Hayasaka's room, waiting for her. He hears her door unlocking and quickly greets her.

To his surprise, Hayasaka completely walks past him with headphones on, not even batting an eye towards him.

"...Haya..?" he mutters.

Soon, they make their way out to the car after breakfast. They greet Kaguya who is already sat in the vehicle.

"Good morning, you two," Kaguya smiles as she waves towards them.

"Good morning, Kaguya-sama," OC responds.

"'Morning, Kaguya-sama," Hayasaka half-heartedly smiles. Her voice sounds hoarse since she hadn't spoken since the night before. She adjusts her headphones around her neck and flattens her skirt before taking her seat.

OC cocks an eyebrow in confusion, wondering why Hayasaka had seemed to be ignoring him. He shrugs it off, shelving the thought for another time.

The car ride to school is dead silent, apart from the occasional awkward shifting from the three present passengers.

OC sighs when exiting the vehicle, not understanding why Hayasaka wouldn't talk to him. He ponders about the past few days and can't think of anything he's done wrong.

He clears his throat and looks over at Hayasaka with her headphones on again, slightly bumping her head to whatever music she's listening to.

"Hey...Haya," OC tries to grab her attention to no avail. She continues to stare off mindlessly, acting as if she didn't hear anything from the boy next to her. Growing more and more annoyed at her ignorance, OC attempts to grab her attention for the last time.

They exit the car and OC catches up to Hayasaka.

"Hayasaka," OC huffs, taking a step in front of Hayasaka. His eyes lighten up a bit when Hayasaka finally stops and acknowledges his presence.

"Yes?"

OC's eyebrows dig inwards. "You've been acting strange lately. Is something wrong?" Hayasaka purses her lips together before walking around him, entering the school entrance.

"I just have business I need to attend to," she admits, "And it's annoying business."

She takes off her headphones again when approaching her friends, Subaru and Mirin asking why she decided to add the accessory for the day.

OC halts and diverts his eyes around the area, wondering what Hayasaka could be talking about. For the rest of the day, he watches Hayasaka closely and ignores the fact that Hayasaka herself could tell he was spying on her.

It is during lunch when OC follows Hayasaka around a corner, where she is met with a familiar person.

"Iino Miko?!" OC whispers loudly in shock. "What 'annoying business' do they have together?!"

He presses himself against the corner where neither Hayasaka or Iino could see him and attempts to listen to their conversation. He silently huffs when unable to hear anything, then peeks his head out to attempt to read their lips.

"Who said you were allowed to wear such jEwelry like that?! They violate Rule 34 of the Shuchiin Academy code!" OC hears as Iino points to Hayasaka's earrings.

"Actually, my boyfriend gave them to me," Hayasaka responds. She grins and folds her arms together.

"B-boyfriend??!"

Hayasaka nods, raising her eyebrows. "Now tell me Miko, wouldn't it only be right for me to keep these on?"

"I apologize, but I'm gonna have to confiscate them! You can get it from me at the end of the day," Iino sternly rejects, holding her hand out and tapping her foot rapidly. OC panics, worried about Hayasaka and being exposed as a couple.

"Oh, is that right?" A shadow casts on Hayasaka's face as the atmosphere starts to shift, even OC could feel his own sins crawling on his back.

His eyes widen when he watches Hayasaka take a step towards Iino, raising an arm and pinning her to the wall.

"Then take them from me."

She slyly grins when hearing Iino wimper in fear, then tilts her head to the side.

"Iino," she starts. "Just what are you to OC?"

OC starts to sweat as his hands go numb. 'Now she's done it! What is she trying to do?!'

OC subconsciously takes a step forward as he contemplates entering the altercation and defusing it.

Only a minute passes when he sees Iino walk past the corner he was hiding in, Hayasaka following behind and clapping her hands together to dust them off.

"H-Haya...?" OC mutters.

"Ah, OC—did you hear all of that?" Hayasaka asks, scratching her head innocently. OC shakes his head no. "She called you a mere acquaintance," Hayasaka finishes as she purses her lips together and gives him a thumbs up.

"So...the annoying business was just to...get an affirmation from Iino...?" OC chuckles when Hayasaka nods and looks away. "Cute. You could've just asked me, though, you know?"

Hayasaka clears her throat. "Well, you know how to lie, I doubt she does,"

"You'd be surprised, after all she lied to you just now, you know?" He laughs when Hayasaka looks at him with her mouth open.

"What do you mean?!"

OC's face starts to become more timid as he clears his throat awkwardly.

"Well..." OC begins to speak, before adjusting his collar. "We're not just acquaintances, we're rivals."

He snickers when he sees Hayasaka's face start to deadpan, followed by a deep and long sigh.

Before OC could say anything else however, Hayasaka dramatically turns around and walks off with a huff.
