"Good morning, officer and welcome to our Mental Health and Support Office. As part of your training, you will undergo a series of sessions with me. I am Doctor Gloria Benitez, Phd in Criminal Psychology. I also have extensive training and sub certifications in Forensic Psychology, Clinical Psychiatry and other related fields. My job, Officer Alonso, is to measure the levels of stability and behavioral patterns exhibited by yourself to determine if you are the right candidate to provide the necessary support and guidance for trauma victims." she said as she gestured to Chris to sit in the sofa in front of her.
The office was the most beautiful space Chris has seen in the past 24 hours. Even though the room didn't have much furniture, the beauty was in the simplicity of it. The first thing she noticed as she came through the door was the majestic wooden desk and tall chair. To the back of it was a huge glass window overlooking downtown LA and at the far back the ocean. One big bookcase covered the entire left side wall, and opposite to it other was the resting place of a big sofa and two chairs in front. Chris looked around as she entered with her bag, feeling a bit anxious. She knew she could definitely ace the written examinations and she was certainly used to the tactical and physical drills, but... the psych evals? Those made her nervous!
The last 24 hours have been confusing for her. Yesterday she had gone through multiple exams and interviews and such. Then, she and the other candidates were taken to the hotel next door. They were provided a notepad, a pen, a tablet with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and an ID, all neatly stored in a small messenger bag. They were allowed to speak with their families under the supervision of a guard in an authorized room. However, she felt cheated because she felt that she had less time to talk than the others who had gone in before her. That's why, this morning she decided to beat the gentlemen to the room to be able to have a couple more seconds to talk with her boys. It was worth it! She would've preferred more time, but at least she felt relieved to hear them cheering on for her.
Last night's sleep wasn't bad, but she definitely missed her bed and the warm body that sleeps with her. Also, she kept expecting the slamming of the bathroom door. She kinda missed the sudden smell of dirty socks coming from the room across the hall, the puddles of water at the foot of the shower, the mess of dishes after dinner, the complaining of cheating between the boys while playing PS5, the mess on the dining room table (which at this point wasn't even used for eating!), Uncle Sarzo's call asking to speak with his fave grandson, her Aunt Helena calling her to pick up food she had prepared for her baby, Street's kinky messages during the day when they were not on missions...she just missed: everything!
"So, officer, let's start with a simple question. Right now, what do you miss the most?"
Aw, man! Horrible question right now!
"Well, I miss my family." she answered shyly.
The doctor stared at her, expecting more of an answer, which she didn't receive because the officer stood and approached the window. She was clearly mesmerized by the urban scene unfolding outside.
"Talk to me about your family, Christina."
"Chris" she immediately said, turning to quickly glance at the woman, "Nobody calls me by my name. I prefer Chris."
"Ok, Chris. Just curious, why?"
She turned again to the doctor frowning, confused. "Why what?"
"Why doesn't anybody call you by your name? Who called you Christina last?"
Chris stood quiet, looking out the window. Some seconds passed. The doctor kept waiting for her to say something, but Chris just stared out, wondering.
"Chris?" the doc called slowly
