"Hey y'all!" greeted Hondo, whom was rolled in his wheelchair by a nurse. He had just been dispatched by the hospital, about to head home for some needed down time. His body still ached, his heart was still in pieces and his mind was all over the place. However, he was still 20 David, the leader of the best SWAT team in LA! Before he could go home for a much needed rest, he needed to make sure his team was alright.
"Hey Hondo!" greeted a choir. Deacon had come in with Luca and Street to visit Chris, who was already chatting with Tan. Chris had been held back for further testing.
"Yo, it's a shame we get to meet like this, in this kinda place, but...here we are!" Luca said annoyed. The others quietly nodded, as Hondo shook hands and greeted everyone.
"I'm just glad everybody's ok." Deacon added.
A sea of "yeah" and nods followed. The team was exhausted as each officer had spent a long time in the hospital. Luca left last night really late with Chris and Street, after his brother picked up Rubio for pizza. Similarly, Deacon had left really late going back and forth between Tan and Hondo, both with difficulties with motor skills. Street was dispatched this morning, but stayed to help Chris during bath and lunch time. She had been complaining of persisting pain, so the doctor increased the pain medication. Fortunately, those worked like magic!
"Actually I wanted to talk to y'all bout that. Truth is...I'm not ok." he paused and bowed his head, "I'm hurting..." Hondo showed a tired melancholic face, as his teammates could feel his pain. Never have they ever seen him so destroyed.
"I'm sorry, Hondo." Chris said as Street held on to her hand and nodded to him.
This time the response was quiet and solemn silence. Each placed a hand on Hondo's healthy shoulder as he breathed in deeply. He hated feeling this way but he just needed his team in that moment...forget about being the strong, powerful man. He didn't feel anything like that!
"I'ma" he paused,"I'ma take some days, process everything. Go to therapy for my leg and shoulder, work on stuff with my folks and Nichelle, get my life together." He said slowly nodding as tears formed in his eyes.
"Hondo, you're not alone." Deacon said as he approached him
"That's right. We got you, boss." Luca said offering his fist
"I'm so sorry, Hondo, but you can always count on us. We'll look after you, ok?" Street said also offering his fist.
Tan and Chris joined in, as all came together realizing their leader was in emotional distress. No questions asked, no judgement...he needed them there!
"Thank you, I appreciated it. I love y'all, really. These couple of months been hard, on all of us. We just gotta recover and go on. I know I am. I just...need to take a step back, ya know? I got something planned, so I'm just gonna work on myself meanwhile. Y'all feel me?"
Another sea of approval and good spirits followed, as the team listened to him attentively.
" Anyway...Tan, how's your head, man?" he asked
"Man, this was a scare for sure. I was scared I was gonna die in that forest! But... now I'm gettin the royal treatment from Bonnie, which is good!" Tan said finishing with a smirk
The officers giggled, as Tan rubbed the side of his head gently and fist pumped Luca.
"Chris, how are u and the kid? I mean... kids?" Hondo asked with a smile. The others giggled softly, as Street frowned.
"You might as well say both kids, coz that sounds bout right." she paused as a sea of giggles followed as well as Street complained from her side. "We actually have some good news. Street?"
