Repairs

It had been a few hours. My legs were still slightly shaking. Moon was running his fingers through my hair, and Sunny had fallen asleep, snoring softly. I shift to where I'm sitting up and stand, surprised that I'm able to after the morning I had. I blush as I think about it.

"Where're you going?" Moon stretches as he stands up, metallic joints clicking. He looks down at me quizzically.

"Oh, I was just gonna snoop around and see if I could find Monty's repair manual. I do need to get started on fixing him," I glare at Moon when he rolls his eyes," the sooner I fix him, the sooner he's out of here, ya know."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Moon sighed," I'll help you look. But remember what I said: both Sunny and I have to be in the room with you, at ALL times."

"Yeah, yeah, I know," I smile as I roll my eyes, throwing on a jacket. Moon walks with me as I leave the apartment. Just before we walk out of the door, I write a small note to Sunny telling him where we are, just in case he wakes up. I follow Moon as we walk out of the daycare, headed for Parts and Services, which is where any repair-related items are bound to be. Moon shifts nervously as we near the doors.

"I never liked this place," He mutters under his breath. I can sense him tensing up beside me.

"You can wait out here if you want to, I shouldn't take long," I smile as I squeeze his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him.

"Okay, but if you take any longer than 5 minutes, I'm coming in there," Moon states, his commanding voice leaving no room for argument. I smile at him and nod before opening the heavy metal doors. I walk in, and the door slams shut behind me. The room is pitch black. Ugh, I should've grabbed a flashlight. I feel around the wall. The light switch!! And . . . nothing. I guess the power isn't working. I blindly make my way down the short flight of stairs, feeling along the shelves for anything that might help. Finally, a flashlight! I grab it and hit the button, and a weak, yellowish beam of light shines out. I sweep the room with the light, searching for any books or bookshelves. I see the glint of a metal figure at the far end of the room, red eyes peering back at me. I laugh, shaking my head.

"What happened to staying out of the room, Moon?" I say with snark as I walk up to him, only to find out, no, this isn't Moon. Ah shit. At least it's just an endoskeleton, they don't have programming, so it should be fine, right? I turn back around, once again peering through the dim light to find any manual for repairs.

screeeeeeeeeeeee

What. The. Fuck. Was. That. My head whips around towards the noise, the once distanced endo now only a few feet away. That . . . isn't good. I walk backwards, keeping it in my line of vision, while making my way over to a stack of books I found in the corner of my vision.

screeeeeeeeeeeeee

Oh shit. I turn around, just to find another endo, maybe two yards away. I whip back around as the other starts to move. Fuck, fuck, I'm stuck, shit. The endo behind me touches me with a cold metal hand, and I do the only thing I could,

"MOOOOOONNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!" I screech out. And before I can even blink, both endoskeletons are completely torn apart, the sound of ripping metal piercing my ears, and I cover them with my hands. I feel something touch my back. I whip around and smack it as hard as I can with the flashlight, and I can feel something dent.

"Ow, that's your thanks for saving you?" Moon's voice rings out, dripping with irritation.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was you, a little warning might've been nice. But, uh, yeah, thank you," I wince at how stupid I sounded. I hurry over and shift through the stack of books, the manual for Monty of course being the last one I look at. I pick it up, holding the rather large book awkwardly. Of course it's hardback. "Come on, let's go, I don't like this place either," I start up the stairs, struggling to hold the book and the rail at the same time. Moon scoffs and grabs the book from me. "Oh, uh, thank you." We make our way back to the daycare in silence. Before I can open the door, Moon stops me.

"I really don't feel comfortable with you doing this to Monty. I know how it made me feel, and the thought of you doing that to him . . . I know I've said this before, it's just . . . I don't know, it's probably stupid, but I can't help but feel jealous," Moon admits, voice barely above a whisper.

"Moonpie, look at me," I manage to grab his faceplate and turn him towards me, " I don't feel for him in any way other than a friend. Just a friend. It won't be like what we had at all. It'll be as fast as possible, and I promise I'll make it up to you. But I can't just let my friend sit like that, possibly in pain."

"I know, Starlight." He put his forehead against mine, then opened the door. The empty, slightly dark daycare was creepy. I cry out as I trip over a rogue toy. Moon picks me up and mutters something about me being a klutz. We make our way over to the boy's tower, Sunny is already in the room, waiting in the corner for us.

"Hey Sunny!!" We pull each other into a tight embrace, and I give him a quick peck on the cheek, causing his rays to tick side to side. I walk over to Monty, who is slumped in the middle of the wall on the far side of the room. "Hey bud, I'm gonna fix you up the best I can, mkay?" He tries to nod, the squeaking metal making me cringe. I start by taping the jagged metal on his face, so as to not cut myself while working with the wires of his eye.

"There! All done for today," I stand up, cracking my back, sore from hunching over to work on Monty. "I need to shower and stuff," I look at Sun and Moon, "You two need to charge, and then we need to get started on cleaning the daycare, the kids will be back tomorrow." I head back to my room,  grabbing some clothes and practically throwing myself into the soothing hot water.
