It was one of those days for Jay where I knew the case was bad for him. He talked to me a little about it but I could tell that he just wanted to process it in his own way. I sat on the grand piano and played some tunes, nothing serious, a little classical music I had learned growing up. Jay sat beside me with his head leaning on mine as he sipped his glass of scotch. That's when my phone rang.

I grabbed it and answered the phone, "hello?"

"Ms Rhodes?" it was our gatekeeper, I got a new one after my kidnapping and Jay made sure he was the best, "there's a Will Halstead here to see you and Mr Halstead. Should I let him in?"

"Of course," I replied, "always let him in."

He cut the call and Jay looked at me, "your brother is here."

His mood lifted visibly, the brothers may have their rough patches but like all siblings, they always made up in the end. The doorbell rang a few moments later and I skipped to open it.

"Hey Will!" I greeted him as he hugged me and pressed a kiss on my cheek.

"Hi Y/N," he then looked deeper into the house, "hi Jay!"

Jay waved at him from the couch and I ushered him in where he took a seat on the plush sofa.

"Would you like anything to drink?" I asked him politely.

"No thanks Y/N," he shrugged and then turned to the both of us, "I need some help from the both of you."

"I feel like I should be scared," Jay responded.

He rolled his eyes, "don't be dramatic. I just visited dad to get something from there," he pulled a velvet box from his pocket and I gasped, it was a simple diamond ring with a gold band, "I want to propose to Natalie with our mother's ring."

I clapped my hands excitedly as Will handed me the box for closer inspection, "it's beautiful. Oh, 2 karats easy. Solid gold but definitely slightly mixed to avoid deformity."

They both stared at me before Jay asked, "how do you know so much about rings?"

"I see a lot of designs from companies on the daily," I shrugged as I handed Will the box back.

He seemed visibly nervous, "I'm not exactly sure how to go about this which is why I wanted your help since Natalie is one of your best friends. You spend almost all your free time together."

"We're not always together," I defended.

"You both ditch Will and me to hang out," Jay said.

"Yeah," I scoffed, "Halsteads are an annoyingly stubborn bunch. We need a break too."

He shoved my shoulder playfully as I giggled before I adopted a look of seriousness, "Will, you're her boyfriend. You know what she likes. I'm sure if you try something meaningful she'll love anything you do."

"It has to be perfect," Will stressed, "I want to sweep her off her feet. Candles, roses, violins- the whole nine yards. Do you know how much French champagne costs?"

"More than you can afford," Jay snarked and I shot a glare at him before comforting Will.

"Sweetie you need to relax," I added, "perhaps you are overthinking this too much. Do what feels natural and I'm sure she'll say yes no matter what."

"I hope so," Will sighed, "because I have been in love with Natalie for as long as I can remember and her saying no might destroy me."

"It'll be fine, you love her and she loves you," Jay finally offered some useful advice and patted his brother's shoulder.
