~Non-Challenge Day~
It was the day after the sand castle incident, and Zane now found himself walking next to Duncan on a path in the woods. "So what are you looking for exactly?" Zane questioned. "Wood," the green-haired boy responded.
"Dude, we are literally surrounded by wood," Zane laughed gesturing around them. "I meant wood for carving, whittling if you will. I wanna make something," Duncan said searching the ground for the perfect size of wood to carve. He wanted to make Zane something, and he remembered the first night of the awake-a-thon when they were getting to know each other better that Zane mentioned his love for things skull-shaped. He said he once owned a green apple handsoap in a skull-shaped bottle he got around Halloween when he was younger, he said he still had the bottle and reused it for skincare products. He also talked about how he got a fake succulent plant in a ceramic sull for decoration and Duncan enjoyed how the shorter boy lit up when talking about the subject.
"So whatcha gonna make?" Zane asked leaning closer while walking. "None of your business, dork," Duncan chuckled. "Aw, why can't it be my business?" the freckled boy pouted.
Duncan sighed and wrapped his arm around the smaller boy's shoulder. "It will be your business when it's done, okay," he whispers. "So it's a surprise?" Zane asked tilting his head. "Yes, a surprise for you," He chuckled messing with Zane's ponytail before continuing to walk. "For me?" Zane mumbled to himself.
Zane wasn't really used to surprises for him, mostly because his mom sucked at keeping secrets or hiding stuff. He's always found out what he's getting for birthdays or Christmas, only once did he get surprised by a gift from his mother.
It was Valentine's day, a holiday he has a love-hate relationship with when he woke up in the middle of the night to find his mom sitting at the computer like she always does when she gets home from work. He saw something in front of the door that lead to the garage, a heart-shaped pillow. It was for him, she went out of her way that once to make him happy.
He still had that pillow like twelve years later, it made him happy. His mother never really spent time with him growing up that he could remember, but she did show affection with the occasional gift. It's the reason he holds more value in material items than he does words.
Her words failed him on many occasions, but her gifts showed she cared. Because his mother never did something unless it was convenient for her, so the fact she went out of her way to think of him on those few occasions made the gifts so special.
Knowing that Duncan was wanting to go out of his way to gift him something meant a lot to him, and the fact Duncan was making it just for him meant even more. Zane's face was flushed red as he just stood there. "You coming or what dork?" Duncan called to the flustered boy. "Coming," He called back and jogged over to the teen.
(Finally wasn't lazy and did some actual art myself of Zane with Duncan's arm making and appearance, I cropped Duncan out cause I messed up his face and gave up on it.)
(Also when I write the actual episode-themed chapters I use the wiki transcripts and watch the episode at the same time since the transcript isn't 100% accurate. While watching the episodes though I've noticed things about the show that bugs me, how do they go in one door in the cabins and come out the other, or come out of the other team's cabin? They are teleporting I swear, and I wanna learn how they do it so I don't have to walk into the kitchen to get a drink at midnight.
Also, I really wanna write a Scott fanfic next cause there are very few of them and most of the ones I find are Scott x Dawn and not Scott x reader or Scott x OC. But I don't wanna start it until I finish this book cause I have a bad habit of starting a project and then starting another and then never finishing the first one, and I don't wanna do that to you.)
