At night.
On the spacious bed, Wei Jing was covered in a thin blanket, laying down beside Wei Min. He had only squished together on the same bed with his big brother a few times when he was younger and now, after more than 10 years, another person laid at his side, leaving Wei Jing feeling uncomfortable.
"Second brother, you can't fall asleep?" Wei Min turned his head in the dark and breathed lightly onto the child's face. "Let's chat!"
"What do you want to talk about?" Wei Jing's gaze fixated on the dark ceiling. After some time in the dark, his eyes had slowly adjusted to the dark environment, and he could now vaguely see the outlines of the surrounding objects.
"En?" Wei Min pondered for a few seconds and pretended to ask casually, "Do you have a close relationship with big brother? Last time when you came home, he went to pick you up himself. How nice! I also want a big brother." 'Coming home' was a tactful way of describing it.
Wei Jing was also confused about his relationship with big brother.
Though it could be said that they had a close relationship, they didn't seem to have many conversations. But to say that they didn't, they bonded pretty well during their interactions with each other, as if they had known each other for a long time.
"It's ok!" At last, Wei Jing could only think of this ambiguous answer.
"I also have a big brother, but he's my older cousin." A light flashed over Wei Min's eyes and he muttered, "Although he sometimes bullied me, he actually treated me pretty well~ Whenever mom is busy, he will take me out with him to play."
Older cousin? So it would be a big brother from his mother's side.
"But ever since I came here, I never saw him again." Wei Min's voice was mixed with sobs, "I miss him so much."
Leaving a familiar place and familiar kin to live in the strange Wei family's residence could be considered to be a traumatic experience for a six year old kid. Wei Jing hesitated for a moment then extended his arms to embrace the child in his arms, patting his back for reassurance.
"It's fine. You guys are in the same city. Whenever you want to meet him, you can do so when you are on break." Wei Jing replied.
"Really?" Wei Min asked with uncertainty, "Will dad get mad for it? And also big brother. Would they think that I'm in too much trouble?"
"You guys are just meeting each other, it should be fine." Wei Jing comforted.
"Thank you, second brother." Wei Min smiled through tears. "I'll bring my big brother over and introduce you guys to each other sometime. He is a really nice person."
Wei Jing actually didn't really want to know anyone else's 'big brother,' but it wouldn't be polite to refuse Wei Min to his face, so he replied ambiguously, "We'll see when the time comes! There is school tomorrow, we better sleep soon, or else we won't wake up tomorrow morning."
"Okay." Wei Min answered obediently. His tiny hands searched in the dark and carefully grabbed onto the other person's pajamas to fully express his reliance.
Wei Jing pressed his lips together, but he still decided not to push the other person away.
Just once, only this time.
The entire Wei family residence woke up at the first gleam of light. The servants busily came and went to finish the tasks they had on hand as they had to finish all the preparation before the head of the household woke up.
Wei Zhe's alarm was always punctual. At 6:30am, he already rose from bed. At 7am, he ran a lap around the artificial grass lawn outside the house. At 7:30am, he took a shower and changed his clothes, then woke Wei Jing up to have breakfast together.
But there was a slight difference today.
The teenager saw Wei Min walking out of the child's room in pajamas. With his facial expression becoming less pleasant, he asked in a serious tone, "Why are you here?"
"Good morning, big brother." Wei Min first greeted him in a well-behaved manner. "I couldn't fall asleep last night, so I came to find second brother to chat with for a while. But as it became late, we slept together." He replied with slightly reddened eyes, as if he had cried previously.
"En." Wei Zhe nodded after he heard the explanation. He was thinking about chatting with Wei Jing later in the day to warn him not to sleep with strangers. What if the other person was ill-intentioned or if his body had some problems? This child, how can he not have any vigilance.
"Um... big brother..." Wei Min dawdled about and hesitated. With pity in his eyes, he went on, "There was actually something that I don't know if I should tell you or not, but I think that you have the right to know since you're involved in it."
"What thing?" Wei Zhe lifted his eyebrows. What can there be between Wei Min and him?
"Um... as I mentioned previously, I came last night to chat with my second brother. Inadvertently, we chatted about you..." Wei Min extended his tiny hands and scratched at his white and soft face, "Second brother said that big brother is being too stern and that you mind his business too much. Especially when you hit him previously, it made him feel ashamed and hateful...Of course, I believed that second brother only said it out of temporary anger." Wei Min smiled innocently. "Because he said that the relationship between big brother and him was ok."
That last sentence was said with particular sincerity.
At least it appeared to be truthful under Wei Zhe's mature perspective. A fist gradually formed as he subconsciously tightened his fingers. Merely...ok?
Wei Min had his reasons for saying these words in front of Wei Jing's room. The quality of the soundproofing in the Wei residence was exceptional, so he doesn't have to worry that the person inside the room will hear. Furthermore...what was more convincing than him walking straight out of the room just now?
Of course, he wouldn't let Wei Jing know about what he just said.
This was attacking from two angles simultaneously by developing a good relationship with both sides. It would be even better if he could kick Wei Jing out and replace him in the family.
If nothing unexpected happened, Wei Zhe would be the confirmed heir. Wei Jing just lost his most useful support—his mother—and he didn't have much contact with his father recently. Now, only he, Wei Jing, and Wei Zhe remained in this old residence.
Father favored Wei Zhe, but he was extremely dissatisfied with Wei Jing.
Wei Min knew about this from the beginning. Now, so long as Wei Zhe transferred his attention towards Wei Jing to him, he didn't need all of it, half would do. Everything starts off difficult. But as long as he gained half of Wei Zhe's attention, the other half would come eventually. What was there to be anxious about?
Wei Zhe still had no idea about Wei Min's scheme, and had fallen into deep self-doubt.
If he were asked 'Does he know much about Wei Jing?', he would've answered 'Of course' a year ago. But Wei Jing ended up betraying him and backstabbing him, which left him feeling very awful. He even started to doubt the Wei Jing in his memory.
But humans were easily changed. He can understand it if his younger brother went down the wrong path for once.
But now...the younger Wei Jing actually regarded him as annoying!!!
Thinking of himself from last lifetime, he was indeed...severe towards Wei Jing during this specific period. Could it be that all children preferred the aloof style? The seldom confused Wei Zhe...was puzzled this time.
As a brother-obsessed teenager, anything that had to do with his younger brother was worth his time to consider.
The author has something to say: Wei Zhe: I heard that you find me annoying?
Wei Jing: Who made the rumor?
Wei Zhe's inner OS: Very good, perfect.
Brother, this is clever but was mistaken by cleverness! But rest assured, I won't be abused, because I'm sweet, so sweet~
