Right Side Up - Steve Harrington

Chapter one: Thirteen

Thirteen has been at Hawkins lab ever since she was born. She was told that her mother died giving birth to her but that wasn't the whole truth.

Dr. Martin Brenner had taken Thirteen when she was born. She had medical problems so she was put in the lab later than the other children.

Thirteen was one of the strongest and oldest children. Her and Eleven were the only girls and they were very close, like sisters.

Dr. Martin had the children call him "Papa" and he trained the children, his experiments got them superpowers. They could do extraordinary things with their mind.

Years later, when Thirteen was 14 years old, alarms went off. She ran out of her room when she heard screaming. She saw blood everywhere. She saw the bodies of her fellow "brothers" she couldn't find Eleven anywhere.

Thirteen ran into the rainbow room, which was the room where all the children had time to play with toys and use their mind tricks with freedom. She saw one of the assistants with the number 001 on his wrist. Eleven was on the ground.

"Eleven!!" Thirteen screamed.

Eleven fought 001 and she started screaming. 001 was thrown into the wall and Thirteen stood there, speechless.

Papa ran into the room, "Eleven?!" He yelled. He stood there and looked at Eleven, "What have you done?"

3 years later...

Thirteen has been stuck in the Upside Down for 3 years. She has blood all over her gown from the lab. Her hair is grown about down to her chest and it's knotty and gross. She tries to cut her hair when she can, but in the Upside Down, there isn't much time for rest. Her three rules to herself are always run, fight, or die.

Dr. Brenner had Thirteen go on a mission to the Upside Down, but he couldn't get her back. She's presumed dead.

Thirteen gets up from under the old bed that she found in a house. It's the one place where she's safe, for the most part. She has been looking for a gate out for 3 years. She hasn't had any human interaction for 3 years either.

Thirteen walks outside to go to the lake, she needs to refill her jug of water. She walks in the open field to the lake and she dips the jug into the water.

She hears footsteps behind her, she hears breathing. She turns around and uses her mind to shove whoever is there away.

"Shit!" The person says. Thirteen can't see their face.

"W-who a-are you?" Was all Thirteen could ask.

"Sorry Thirteen." The person says. Thirteen feels a heavy pain in her head and she falls to the ground. Everything goes black.

"Thirteen?" The mysterious person asks. Thirteen is laying on the ground.

Thirteens head starts hurting and her ears ring.

"Hey, look." The person says.

Thirteen opens her eyes and sees Eleven, her best friend, her sister.

"E-Eleven?" Thirteen asks.

Eleven smiles. "Yeah, it's me." Thirteen hugs her.

Thirteen hasn't spoken to anybody for three years, she doesn't remember how to say anything properly. "w-where?"

"We are in my friend's basement." Eleven says. "His name's Mike."

"You escape P-papa?" Thirteen asks.

"Yes." Eleven says. She helps Thirteen up. "You need some clothes."

Eleven picks out a Hawkins Junior High sweatshirt and some black sweatpants.

"I-I can wear this?" Thirteen asks.

Eleven gives her a small smile. "Yeah. It's really comfy."

Thirteen goes to the bathroom and takes off her gown. She has cuts and bruises and scars everywhere.

Eleven let Thirteen borrow a pair of underwear and a sports bra. Thirteen puts everything on and heads out of the bathroom.

"Eleven, it's so, comfy." Thirteen says. "This is great!" Eleven smiles at Thirteen. "Wait, Eleven." Thirteen says. "How long have you been here?"

"A couple of weeks." Eleven says. "A lot has happened but i'll tell you later." She looks at the clock. "Let's go get some eggos." Eleven goes into a little fort and grabs some eggos.

Thirteen tries one and looks at Eleven with surprise. "I like Eggos." She says. Eleven hugs her.
