I rushed to the window, my finger pressed to my lips to make a shushing noise. With two clicks of my window lock, he was in.

"Max," I giggled. "I didn't expect to see you tonight. You didn't text or even call." The young man stretched his arms to the sky and let out a lazy yawn. He ruffled a hand through his messy golden hair and fell on to my bed.

"I know," his speech muffled by my comforter, "I just wanted to see you. Besides, I was already in the area."

"Is that so?" I sat down next to him and gently began to comb through his hair with my fingers. "I thought you were going downtown with the boys tonight."

"Oh we went downtown. It was great! But everyone wanted to go home and I wasn't ready for the night to end yet."

"So you came here while I was going to bed?" He rolled over to face me and show me his smile. His golden eyes were glazed over with intoxication.

"Yeah. I suppose I did. I didn't ruin any plans, right?"

"Only my plans to get some sleep," I said while I stroked his cheek with my finger. "You'll never guess what happened at work today."

"What?"

"Carla and I got attacked by the angry ghosts at the library."

"Again?" he chuckled deeply. "Now where did they get you this time? Could it have been your hand?" He sat up and took my hand into his. Then Max graced it with a gentle kiss. "Or maybe your arm?" he asked to answer himself by kissing my arm.

I felt my face warm as his eyes locked with mine. He placed his hands on each side of my face. "Or possibly," he trailed off and leaned in close. My heart began to beat so quickly I couldn't bear it, and turned away. My eyes closed, I could still tell how Max felt with his sharp sigh and thud on the bed. "I thought you wanted me to kiss you," he grumbled.

"I'm sorry. I do," I trailed off, picking at my fingers. I began to think about what Carla had said earlier once more. Their coffee shop dates and midnight dancing were something we've never done before, only these meetings within each others rooms or a faint wave as we pass each other by while on my way to work. "It's just that maybe we should go public. Maybe go on an outing somewhere?" I asked nervously.

"I think I could do that," he agreed despite my doubts. After asking for so long he's finally said yes. My heart fluttered a little more, butterflies formed in my stomach just like when we had met. I smiled.

"Okay, how about a coffee date tomorrow morning?"

"So soon?" he grumbled.

"Is that a problem?" I sighed.

"I'm lucky if I'm going to be out of bed by one, but I think I can swing it." He closed his eyes and smiled to me as reassurance. "I guess I'll just have to be lucky. What time are you thinking?"

"Ten? Over at that 'Cozy Coffee House.'"

"The place across from the river?"

"Yes that's the one," I whispered in excitement. I laid down on his chest with a smile too wide to conceal. I couldn't believe my ears, it was finally happening. I was going on my first date with Max. More importantly, I was going on my first date.

The breeze snuck into the window as we laid there in silence, enjoying each other's company. My curtain dancing all the while. My eyelids began to feel soft, warm, and heavy. Just as I closed them, Max began to set up. I fluttered my eyes awake with all of my willpower to gaze at his golden eyes once more.

"I should head home if I'm going to get any rest."

"I'll see you then, Max."

Without response, he shuffled his way to the window and climbed out. For a few more minutes I stayed in the comfort of my warm bed that now smelled of his cologne. It was a little odd. It smelt so sweet, almost like peaches. The scent strikingly different than his regular pine and forest that I had come so accustom to. Perhaps he was trying something new.
