We stalked around the men's dorm like a pack of thieves. Caroline and Carla were able to reach up higher than the rest of us, so they were tasked with finding an open window. I watched as Caroline's delicate fingers would crawl up the glass, to where she could attempt to pull. The window did not budge. She tried again, and again to no avail.

Carla was attempting in her own way, harshly grabbing at the window and flinging it open with full force. I watched her arms strain and shake, obviously trying to force every window she came across.

With our first failure, we continued to circle around the building. My brain pulsing as I tried to come up with a plan B. I looked in every direction, my eyes straining to make sense of the darkness. My focus eventually came to a tree. This specific tree had large limbs that stretched close to a window, cracked open on the second story.

"Give me the rope," I whispered to Harper. She gave it over with a look of burning curiosity in her eyes. I smiled and began the most intense climb of my life. I loops the rope around the tree once, and pulled it tight. Just like something I'd seen in Mulan during one of my first play dates with Harper. Like Mulan having to climb a large pillar to retrieve an arrow, I find myself in a similar song and dance. I place one foot upon the trunk of the tree. Then my leg tensed, as I began to climb.

I made slow work of the tree, constantly sliding down and getting my clothes stuck on the bark. But I persevered, climbing up onto the branch where I could finally rest. Harper cheered for a brief second before Caroline shushed her. Carla smiled to me with a thumbs up. To which I responded with a matching thumbs up.

"Now throw down some of the rope so we can join you," Carla whispered. They did much more gracefully than I. Or at least Carla and Harper. Despite her height, Caroline struggled to hoist herself up the tree. Her clothes being eaten by the the trees bark. We all watched from the safety of the branch as she began to breathe heavily. Her legs shaking beneath the pressure. She looked to us, her brown eyes widening before falling back to the ground with a heavy thud.

"I'm alright. For the most part," she muttered up to us, rubbing her shoulder.

"We'll get down the to first floor and open a window. We won't be long!" Harper called down to her. Quickly after, we began to climb from the branch into the window.

I hopped in first, almost slipping and falling on the floor immediately. I inhaled sharply, feeling the moisture within the air. The floor was a moist tile, the floor was a sad white. As the girls filed in, I finally noticed what kind of room we where in; a bathroom. Pressing my finger to my lips, I reminded to the girls that we must be quiet as a shower running in the corner of the room. Harper's cheeks flooded a deep red with the realization. She looked down, using her hand as a shield. We left the room without making a sound.

Now, in the quiet darkness of the dorm, we made another plan. We were loosing time and we had a lot of ground to cover. Carla suggested splitting up. That's an idea I will always be worried about. That's how every horror movie starts, how every dnd campaign party dies. But, she was insistent, so we obliged. Harper went to the stairs, Carla went right, leaving me with left.

I took a moment to remember my surroundings. If that guy was here, I knew I might need to make a quick exit.  While walking for a few more moments, I came to a corner to turn. I stopped, feeling my heart beat, as if it wanted me to run back the way I came. To go and hide.

Against my better judgement, I turned the corner anyways. He was there. He was everywhere, it left a bitter taste in my mouth. I watched him as he flipped through a old-school picture book, gently placing new photos inside. I could only wonder what they were, squinting through the darkness. I sighed and turned to leave, but then I felt something grab my hand.

"I knew you'd take interest in me sooner or later," the young man beamed.

"You've got the wrong idea," I spat back. I tried yanking my hand back to no avail.

"Is that so? Then why else are you sneaking the boy's dorm in the middle of the night?" he whispered into my ear, lightly kissing it.

"That's not the point," I hissed, breaking away. "I need to get in and get out in without being seen. So you are going to turn around and forget you ever saw me." I emphasized my point by pushing my finger into his chest with every syllable.

"Now, how am I going to do that?" I paused, feeling my muscles tense and my blood boil. This guy, who did he thing he was? My finger recoiled off of him, and took refuge within my pocket.

"Because if you don't and you try to use this against me, no one will believe you," I huffed. I worked up the strength to run around the corner. Down the hall and to the right, I struggled to remember the path I took in here. The entire time, I heard his footsteps trailing behind. They were surprisingly light and quiet, as if he wasn't trying to wake anyone up. I began to wonder if he didn't want the dorm being alerted himself.

A moonbeam shimmered through the window ahead, like a quest marker. Without thinking, I jumped. The air was knocked out of my lungs as I laid below the second story window, hiding in the broken bushes. Between trying to learn how to breathe once more, and keeping those struggled breaths silent, I waited.

The weather was nice and cool. It gently chilled my sweat covered skin, easing the newly formed bruises on my knees. My ribs cried with pain every time I moved. It was something I just had to ignore for now. A few more minute's passed. Then I saw him. I watched how his fingers sharply curled around the trim of the window. He peered, scanning left to right. The seconds dragged on. He took his sweet time. My heart beat so hard, I could feel it clawing its way out of my chest.

I watched how his bright, blue eyes scanned the trees. He observed each branch carefully, like a hunter looking for his prey. His neck began to crane down to look at the bushes below, where I couldn't even move.

Then, I heard the loud cawing of a crow. His call echoed throughout the campus. This dark-haired man sharply looked up, towards the direction of the crow. Then was quickly met with that familiar, silver crow flying into the window, nailing him in the face. All I could hear was him screaming, and the Sterling cawing.

Then silence. I counted the seconds. The seconds became minutes. Sterling eventually did crawl out of the window, and back into the night sky. I let out a large sigh. My friends did eventually find me laying in the bushes. Harper brushed off the leaves and pulled the sticks out of my hair.

"What happened to you!?" She frantically helped me to my feet, wiping the small amounts of blood off of my skin.

"It was that one guy I talked about earlier. Turns out, he's completely crazy," I responded between gasps.

"The dancing guy?" Carla questioned.

"Yes Carla. Now please," I began to beg frantically. "Can we please get out of here?"

Everyone agreed and quickly headed to the front of the building. We walked down the sidewalk, back towards the library. There, once more, was a debrief. Again, Harper and Caroline reminded everyone to not text about this. Nothing over the phone, nothing over emails. We agreed.

Then, Caroline held up her camera. "I took some interesting pictures," she smiled. "You'll have to come over to see what I found once the photos cure." I gave her an inquisitive look. "What? I couldn't use my phone, so I had to go old school. I was able to borrow this."

"Well, I'm glad someone found something," I mumbled. For a moment, I felt like we were being watched. As I turned around, I swear, I saw his blue eyes hiding in the shadows.
