As it turns out, I couldn't do this job in my sleep. I'd forgotten how needy people are when you have a title and authority. In regards to the food, everyone came to me. I have to admit I just stared at a few people that night, wondering what I'd gotten myself into.
I stepped into our living room with a sigh. Holly was watching TV and Edward was nowhere to be found. Holly smiled, "Hey, how was your first night in hell?"
I rolled my eyes, "Hey, I know you didn't like working in the caf, but it's really not that bad." I sat down on the arm of the couch, "I have my own desk and everything, real snazzy."
Holly laughed, "I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. How do you think you'll hold up for a week straight?"
I shrugged, "I don't think it'll be that hard. I mean, it's the same stuff every day. If the group is this picky all week I might need to join the catholic church so I can go to confession."
Holly coughed on her wine, "Are they that bad?"
I laughed, "No worse than the normal students I guess. Anyways, I'm going to get ready to turn in because I forgot just how heavy food is."
Holly raised her glass my way as I headed down the hall. My room was a safe place that I was happy to have. I talked tough, but this job wasn't actually that easy and I was going to have to work hard to prove I deserved it. And that I wasn't a student that needed to be babied anymore.
I changed into my pajamas and curled up to journal a bit before I went to bed. Then someone knocked on my door. I sighed, "It's always open."
Edward poked his head in, "Do you always answer like that?"
I shrugged, "I have since like sophomore year. What's up?"
Edward looked sleepy, "I heard you come in and I just wanted to know how your first day went."
Setting down my notebook, I smiled, "It was okay. It'll take time to get back into the swing of things, but I'm ready for it."
Edward yawned, "That's good. Anyways, I was planning to go shopping for a new suit this weekend. Holly already said she would come. You in?"
I nodded, "Of course. I'm always down to see you in a monkey suit." Edward just waved at me and shut my door. I rolled my eyes, of course Edward wanted to go shopping. Although I was definitely not going to be of any help. I had no fashion sense whatsoever.
So, Saturday afternoon we headed to the mall. Edward wasn't the biggest shopper and as it turned out, he needed a green suit. And with that knowledge, it was highly doubtful that he would find anything.
Wandering around the mall with Edward and Holly was a completely different experience than what Kayden and Maya would have brought. I was used to trying on dumb clothes, walking through every single store, and being thoroughly exhausted by the time we were done.
But instead, Edward stepped into three different stores, looked around, and left. So finally Holly suggested an actual tux place and we headed over to a little outdoor mall. Edward talked to the sales person while Holly and I wandered around looking at the selection of ties and muttering about how cute the salesman was.
Edward finished up and headed out a different door. Holly and I just shrugged and followed along.
We found a cornhole set and a ping pong table. The three of us messed around for almost an hour. It was an odd combination, the three of us. None of us were very loud nor were we really completely comfortable with each other yet. Not in the same way that I had been with my other roommates.
There wasn't the loud laughter and yelling that I expected. No, we talked and played and teased each other for our lack of skill.
Finally, the crew got bored and we headed back to the car. We sat there for a moment before Edward asked, "Food?"
Holly and I agreed and the two of them began to research places. We finally landed on the restaurant right next to us... and that's when the night really seemed to begin.
