The school bell rings and Mike is seen dancing. He pauses in front of the mirror as he notices someone in the reflection.
Mike smiled as he recognised the scene. Tina leaned her head against his shoulder as everyone watched the TV.
He turns around. "Mom? What are you doing here?"
"What are you doing, Michael?" His mom responds.
"It looks like you were practicing for glee club. Great idea, Mike. " Mr Schuester gave him a thumbs up and a proud smile.
Quinn rolled her eyes. "Not everything is about glee, Mr Shue..."
"I'm... just warming up for football."
"Your inability to lie pains me," Sue grimaced, shaking her head at the scene.
"How can you look at me like that and lie to me? I got a call from your chemistry tutor when you didn't show up. I covered for you with your father. So now I'm a liar, too. The least you could do is tell me the truth."
"I auditioned for the school musical."
Mr Shue looked slightly disappointed that he wasn't practicing glee choreography.
Quinn smirked, "told you so."
"I don't want to be a surgeon or a lawyer, Mom. I want to be an artist. Special." He paused. "And the only time I really feel special is when I do..."
He jumped in the air and did a spin. "That."
"Mike..." Santana covered her laughter with her hand, unable to control it. "What was that?"
Everyone chuckled lightheartedly as Mike shook his head with a bashful grin.
He walked towards her with a worried frown, "Mom, please don't cry."
"Michael, my job is to encourage you to live your dreams, not mine, not your dad's. I was raised a certain way, and my parents had expectations of me and I simply was not as courageous as my son. I let go of my dreams but I never want you to do that. Do you hear me?" She paused, taking a small sigh. "So... do you know if we earned that part in the school musical yet?"
"Your mom is awesome," Puck smiled at the screen.
"Yeah, she is," Mike agreed.
Mike shook his head with a slight shrug. His mom continued, "Well, when you do, we're going to tell your father about it. Together."
The glee club watched the scene with warm hearts and content smiles.
Mike smiled and hugged his mother, who chuckled warmly in the embrace.
"So what dream did you let go of?" He asked as he pulled away from the hug.
"Like you, I loved dancing. But your wàigōng never let me take lessons."
Tina glanced up at Mike. "So you got your love of dancing from your mom."
"Yeah," he beamed, "I guess I did."
"Some people think I'm a pretty good teacher." Mike smiled, placing his mother's purse to the side and taking her hand.
"It's me," Finn grinned, "I'm 'some people.' And my dancing is way better now!"
Sam sent him a supportive pat on the back as Rachel faked a smile, "yeah... you're... great!"
"Okay," she laughed softly.
"Are you still teaching her?" Blaine asked curiously.
"Yeah," Mike nodded. "Every week."
Artie smiled. "Awesome."
The mother and son began to dance gracefully around the room, smiles on their faces.
The scene ended and everyone was left with happy expressions.
"That scene was nice," Brittany noted with a smile.
Mercedes nodded in agreement, "it was so sweet."
Tina beamed at her boyfriend, "I love you."
"I love you too." He grinned.
Everyone turned their attention back to the screen as Kurt pressed play.
