The next morning I took my time getting ready. Not only because my head still hurt from the 'fall', but also because I didn't want to run into Draco. I liked him...a lot, but if Gregory found out, who knows what'll happen.
"What do I do if I see him?" I asked while standing in front of my mirror, brushing my hair.
"Who?"
"Draco." I answered, setting my brush down and fixing my green tie.
"Who?"
"Draco!" I replied, growing more and more irritated. "I mean, if Gregory found out what happened last night he would loose it."
"Who?"
I turned around quickly, until I was face to face with her.
"Your not helping me, Midnight!" I said, loudly.
"...Who." She cooed.
"UGHH!" I let out a frustrated sigh, before grabbing my bag and heading out my door. As I opened the door I came face to face with none other than Draco Malfoy.
I jumped slightly at the sight of him and he just smirked. "Who were you talking to, Heart?"
I felt a small blush creep onto my cheeks. "N-no one." I stuttered as he pulled me to him.
"D-Dra-" I was cut off by a soft pair of lips on mine. I knew it was wrong, but I liked it. After a few seconds I pulled away.
"Draco this is wrong. I'm with Gregory. You know that." I said, looking at him.
"Well, break up with him." He shrugged.
"I wish I could." I mumbled.
He released his hands from my waist and looked straight into my eyes with an unreadable expression on his face. "What do you mean, you wish you could? You know you can right? If you're not happy, you have a right to break up with him."
"It's not that simple." I whispered.
"Is there something you're not telling me?" He asked, sternly.
I shook my head, looking down at the ground.
"You're a horrible liar, Opal. You never look people in the eyes when you're lying. But I'll let it slide...for now." He smirked and took a step closer to me. "You should know that I'm not gonna give up that easy. I'm gonna fight for what I want, and that's you."
He leaned down and kissed my cheek before heading out the door.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Christmas break came along and I left to the Weasley's with Ron, Fred, George and Ginny. I had the best Christmas ever! Granny sent me a few gifts and letters since she couldn't make it. Mrs. Weasley made me a mint blue sweater with a large pastel pink O on it. It was my new favorite thing to wear and she was extremely happy that I liked it. The break was amazing, except for when Gregory came to visit. He introduced himself as my boyfriend to which I didn't comment on. He even tried kissing me in front of Ron and Ginny, to which I pushed him away. He got angry but hid it until they left us alone. After they left I had an 'accident' with the door frame. Apparently, I crashed into it and got a nasty bruise on my nose. How clumsy am I? The Weasley's all thought I was happy with him, but I wasn't.
When we got back to Hogwarts, our usual classes continued. I was in my Defense Against the Dark Arts class, a few weeks after coming back, sitting in my usual seat next to Daphne when Professor Moody started talking about the three unforgivable curses. Fred and George taught all three if them to me, but I hate learning anything about them. They wanted to show me how they worked on Ron's rat, but I didn't let them. I hate animal cruelty, or any type of cruelty really.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when Professor Moody pulled out a large spider and used the Imperius Curse on it. He made it jump around on people causing some, like Ron, to squirm and yelp in their seats. The class laughed as others screamed, but I, along with Neville Longbottom, Harry, and Hermione, did not find it funny at all.
I could tell that they too were biting their tongues, in order for them to not say anything about the cruel way the professor was treating the poor defenseless creature.
After using the Imperius Curse, Moody pointed his wand to the spider and said "Crucio."
The second the spell hit the spider I stood quickly from my seat.
"STOP!" I yelled. Moody stopped torturing the spider, but the spider was to worn out to escape. It laid on its back, twitching slightly, which brought a lump in my throat.
Everyone's eyes were on me, but I gave it no attention as I was staring at the dying creature.
"Yes, Ms..." Professor Moody started.
"Heart." I said, confidently, turning my gaze to him.
His eyes widened and gave me a creepy, knowing smile.
"Yes, Heart. Would you like to share something with the class?" He said, as he straightened up a bit.
"As a matter of fact I would." I took a deep shaky breath and tried not to think about all the eyes on me. "You have no right to torture that creature."
"Really? Why not? It's for educational purposes, and it's not like it matters anyways. It's just a stupid insect." He replied coldly.
I gave him an evil glare. "I don't care if it's for educational purposes!" I said, anger rising in my voice. "You still have absolutely no right to torture it! It can still feel, just like us!" I spat angrily.
"Calm yourself, Heart." He said, calmly. "I'll tell you what. I'll just put it out of its misery for you." He smiled evilly, and before I even had a chance to get my wand out, he pulled his out quickly and said two words that made my heart drop.
"Avada Kedavra!" He yelled. I saw the green light hit the spider and watched as its small body became lifeless. I didn't even realize a few tears streaming down my face. I wiped them off quickly, as I brought my wand up and pointed it at the smiling Professor.
"Stupefy!" I yelled, angrily.
I watched as Professor Moody's stupid smile disappeared from his face, as he flew backwards falling on the floor, unconscious.
"I told you to leave it alone! I told you and you wouldn't listen!" I screeched. I didn't realize the frightened and surprised students all standing from their seats and some huddled in the back of the class room. I didn't think about anything else, but the heartless man on the floor.
"I told you, and you didn't care! Now you're the spider! You're the spider and I'm the one who doesn't care! How does it feel?!" I yelled angrily, feeling more tears fall down my face.
I brought my wand back up and pointed it at his unconscious body. "AVADA-"
"Expelliarmus!" Someone yelled, causing my wand to fly out of my hand.
I turned around and saw Draco with his wand pointed at me. Daphne was standing right behind him, along with Neville, Ron, and Hermione with Harry behind them, while everyone else was in the back of the class. He had a sad yet frightened look in his eyes and I realized what I had done. I looked around at all the shocked and terrified looks on everyone in the class. I looked at the still unconscious body of Moody. Then back up at Draco.
"I-I'm s-sorry. I...I didn't mean to-" I stopped talking, when Draco reached out and hugged me tightly. I laid my head into his chest as he stroked my hair. I was shaking at this point.
"It's okay. It's okay, Opal." He whispered.
"I-I almost killed him." I whispered.
"But you didn't." He replied.
I calmed down after a few minutes, and realized Draco and I were the only ones in the room. Moody must have been taken to the hospital wing by other students.
I looked up at Draco, who smiled at me.
"What?" I asked, seriously.
"All that for a spider?"
