74. Edward Cullen - I Accept

Context: The end of New Moon, where Edward tries to get himself killed and you are both standing in front of the Volturi. But this time, the Volturi give you two options.

Edward stood there, no shirt on, paler than you've ever seen him before.

"You cannot have her." He said, standing protectively in front of you.

Caius laughed and walked towards the both of you. "It's not really your choice is it Edward." He said looking straight at you. "Let's see what the little lamb wants to do."

Edward turned to you, pleading with his entire being. "Please, Y/N, don't do this. I want you to live out the rest of your life as a human. I can't watch you become the monster I am." He held you to him, feeling his cool skin against your fevered one.

Your mind raced as you had a flashback of the good times between you and Edward. The countless nights you stayed up with him only to pass out in his arms. The baseball game that inevitably ruined your relationship, because you were hunted by James. The constant fear of getting old and dying and never spending another moment with Edward and his family.

You realized everyone was staring at you. Edward, his eyes pleading for you to say no and stay human. Aro, Caius, and Marcus all watching you intently as you weighed your options.

Option one: Stay human. The Volturi gave Edward that option. But you were to never leave his sight. Not once. Not ever. You were to always stay with him, under his wing. You knew too much about the vampires and that was a danger they couldn't let free.

Option two: Join the Volturi. Become one of them, a vampire, and live out your days in their care. With the option of being able to spend time with Edward, as long as you always returned to the Volturi. To serve under them and be their new shiny toy.

Be a slave to the man you love, or be a free slave to the most powerful vampire organization on earth?

You already knew the answer before the second option crossed your mind.

Walking towards Aro, who let's face it was your favorite, you bowed in front of him. "I accept."

The guttural cry from the vampire behind you made your heart clench, knowing it was Edward and knowing that it would take time for him to forgive you.

"Good choice my dear." Aro said, taking your hand pulling you to your feet.

"Let me say good bye to him." You pleaded.

Aro nodded and released your hand, though you could have easily pulled it out since his grip was very loose. You turned and walked towards Edward. The vampire was on his knees, his hands holding up his body so that he wouldn't fall to the ground. Reaching him, you fell to your knees, pulling his head up to look at you.

"I love you." You said to him. "I will always love you. I had to do this, because I can't stand another minute knowing that if I stay human, then I will die and leave you. And then what? It took you 70 years to find me. Why lose me?" You said, tears dripping onto the marble floor. You kissed him, hard. His lips forming against your as you let him hold you.

He pulled away briefly, looking into your eyes. "I will love you as long as you're like this." He said.

Your heart shattered. Pain flew through your body as he released you. Caius' guard walked up and pulled you away, taking you towards the door that Aro was standing in. You watched in shock as Edwards face fell to the ground and you let out a scream.
