Have a happy Marcus which could be considered OOC because he is so damn happy.

****

Marcus was by no means healed from the pain he had suffered for centuries but having you certainly made his existence easier. That isn't to say you didn't have one of the rockiest relationships going. You had to accept that losing his mate changed him and so you'd always know the man who lost his love, never the man who was in love.
You couldn't replace Didyme. You didn't want to live in anothers shadow which often lead to a lot of insecurity. You weren't polite with your most recent words as you found yourself upset at just how much a dead woman could impact your life. So you said something to Marcus that you didn't mean in the long run but definitely meant at the time. "Get lost!"

You were met with silence from all three leaders and the guard. Your face said it all, you were shocked that you had said it. You prayed none of them knew what it meant but everyone's faces twisted telling you they knew exactly what you meant. silence still prevailed and you were beginning to think you hadn't just stunned yourself but the Volturi too since it's a guarantee that no one has ever spoken to any of them like that.
The rest just flowed as fought back tears. "I'm not Didyme! I can't be her! Didyme is dead! I know that you're hurt and I'd do anything to take that hurt away from you but I just need to feel more like me and less than her replacement!" You stormed off, you had no other choice. You wanted to escape the situation. Justifying it didn't make you feel better, you felt terrible.

That night Marcus came to your room to respond. You lay in your bed, back to him and buried under your covers so he wouldn't see you. You thought he'd be angry, or punish you somehow.
Instead, he was gentle. "I know you aren't asleep," He drawled. "but that's okay." The last part came out in a whisper. "I want you to listen to me, you are not a replacement. I know, I can't get her back but with you here...that's alright. I'll always treasure her but I'll always treasure you just as much. She is a memory of my past, but you're my future... remember that." You heard the door click shut and a tear ran down your face. Well now you really felt horrible

You didn't see Marcus until mid-day the next day. You found him in his study, reading. You loomed in the doorway for a few moments.
After a moment of being under your stare, he looked up from his book. "Is there something you need?"
You didn't respond but moved towards him. "I need to say sorry."
"Of course you don't-"
"I do." You interrupted him. "I can't believe I said that to you and I'm sorry for being so dramatic. There's no excuse."
Marcus' free hand touched yours to get your attention. "I'll accept the apology for you but not as serious as you'd like because I'm telling you that there is nothing to apologise for." Marcus tugged you down, cupping your jaw and planting a kiss to your cheek. "Let's just move on, hm? It doesn't need to be such a fuss." You nodded with a small smile.

Later that day you came into the garden, where the walls were at least ten feet tall, keeping out the world. It's where the Volturi went to go outside without having to hide. Something many of them did often. Marcus had returned to reading his book, the sun turning his skin to diamonds. He couldn't help but smile when he heard your heartbeat draw near.
He looked up to see you moving towards him with a wide grin. "Mom, she told me to get a lime, but I ain't get no line! Instead I get myself some bubblegum!" Marcus couldn't help but smile more as he watched you do a funny little dance in front of him.
"Bazooka-zooka bubble gum! Bazooka-zooka bubblegum! Ya!" You laughed. "I heard some kids sing it across the courtyard and it's so catchy!"
"You're silly." Marcus teased and you grinned again doing the same funny dance before he closed his book releasing a chuckle and grabbing your arm, pulling you to him. "Come here you!"
You squealed at how quick the movement was as he pulled you into his lap. You began to giggle as he accidentally tickled you as he fixed you in his hold.
He hummed in amusement, the closest you'd properly ever get to a lap. You bumped his nose with what you hear was called an Eskimo kiss which he surprisingly returned with one of his own.
"You're very lively today, my dear." Marcus said as you leaned back into one of his arms to think.
"Well that's not good because I'm actually pretty tired but I had to get some of this divine vitamin D which I rarely get because that entails being outside." You smiled at him with pride. "You're really comfy, do you know that?"
Marcus slowly shook his head with a smile.

After some conversation, he went back to his book and you just enjoyed his company. It wasn't long however when Marcus would hear your heart slow into a steady rhythm. He looked towards you to see you had fallen asleep, the warm sun hitting your face.
