"Pregnant?"
"Yep."

You turned where you were cuddled in Embry's arms to look up at him, "Pregnant?"
"Uh huh." He nodded and dropped his forearm over his eyes.
You pulled the bed covers up higher so that you could cuddle up to Embry better, "Well how does that work?"

Embry raised his arm to quirk an eyebrow and smirked, "Are you asking for a demonstration?" He asked and moved both his hands to your hips and his lips attacked the side of your neck blowing a raspberry. With a squeal, you pushed at his chest lightly and tried to squirm away from him, "Get your paws of me, you dork. You know that's not what I meant, I mean Edward's dead, right?"
"Right." Embry answered and kissed your neck softly where he'd just been blowing raspberries.
"Well how can a dead guy, you know...reproduce?" You asked.
Embry shrugged and spoke into your neck, "I can change into massive wolf at will, I find it better not to question things these days."

You brought one hand up to run it through his hair, "Things aren't going to settle for a while, are they? Sam's going to have to retaliate."
Embry moved his head back to hold your gaze with his, "Whatever happens, whatever the pack must do and however the Cullen's react, I'm coming back to you. We've got our plan and we're going ahead with it, okay?"
"Okay, I love you Embry." You whispered and leaned up to kiss him softly.
"Of course you do, I'm amazing." He grinned, "I love you too."
"Of course you do, no one else would have you." You mimicked him and he playfully flicked your arm.

The next few months were tough, when Jake left you all for the for the sake of a woman who had chosen a vampire over him, the pack was devastated. Then when Leah, Seth and Cade joined him and with the boys constantly on watch, you were abandoned. You threw yourself into your college prep work to fill the void of the laughing of your friends and Embry's loving touch. It had been hard but once Bella had given birth and the pack received word that Jacob had imprinted on the baby the pressure eased off.

Seth, Leah and Cade moved back onto the Res even though they stayed within Jacob's pack and you and the other imprints where finally able to enjoy a breather from the constant patrols and security guards. After an argument with his mum Embry moved in with you and you started most morning by bringing him coffee and running your fingers through his hair. It was a small gesture but as stress ate away at his sanity it was just what he needed to bring him back to the ground.

When more vampires flooded into the area ready to defend the Cullen's and Jacob's child imprint, the only thing that kept Embry's sanity was wrapping himself up in you and having whispered, clandestine conversations about your future after everything was over. You'd not seen Seth, Leah, Jacob or Cade since they the packs had split, even though you were now 'allowed' to talk to them again no one wanted the influx of leeches to know about any of the imprints. For the sake of your safety you had to lose your family. The longer this went on and the closer these Vampire leaders got the more you felt your future with Embry slipping away, you'd be lying if you said you were keeping it together.

The night before they were due to arrive Embry pulled you into the woods for a walk despite your insistence that you just wanted to stay in bed with him – possibly for the last time. Neither of you spoke while you crunched through the snow, you breathed in the winter air in until your nose and cheeks were red. As usual Embry, with his arm around your shoulders, didn't feel the cold and his mind seemed to wander further off into the woods. He stopped you as you came into the small clearing where he said that the pack had trained with the Cullen's for the ward against the new-borns – that felt like an age ago now.

"Embry?" You asked when he moved to stand in front of you.
Even in the moonlight you could see his lip quiver. He swallowed and moved his hands to your face and your cheeks tickled at the temperature change, "I didn't want to do this like this but I can't go tomorrow without doing it."
Anxiety churned your stomach, "It? Em what's wrong?"
He sucked his bottom lip between his teeth before dropping his hands from your face and taking your gloved hands in his. Embry leaned his head down to rest his forehead against yours but said nothing.
"Embry, please talk to me." You whispered to him and revelled in the warmth of having him so close for possibly the last time.
"You know I love you right?" He whispered against your lips.
"Of course, I do, I love you too." You answered. He had started to sway you ever so slightly from side to side and hummed lightly as he did. You let him move you so that you could dance in the night air of the forest clearing to music of his own making.
He gently pulled you to stand on his feet so he could move you with him and you couldn't stop the giggle that bubbled up at concentrating expression. Embry stopped humming, "I had a really impressive plan for this. I did, I promise. But I can't go into that fight tomorrow without doing this."

You stepped back from his dancing feet, "Embry, you're- I'm terrified about tomorrow. Please just tell me, what's going on?"
"I know we're young and after tomorrow we've got all of our lives together." He told you and gently squeezed your gloved hands before letting them go. He stepped back away from you and after a deep inhale of the winter night and pulled a small box from his pocket. He continued, "I want to make a promise to you, well a few actually. I promise to come back tomorrow, I promise that I will bring everyone back safe and sound tomorrow." He swallowed hard and opened the box in this hand to show you sliver ring, "And I promise that one I'll propose properly and get you down that aisle."

Your hands flew to cover your mouth at the sight of the promise ring shining in the moonlight. Gently he guided your hand gently down from your face and pulled your glove free from your hand and put the box into it. The cold air blew against the tears spilling down your cheeks. The promise ring was sliver and slim with a wolf carved into the surface.
"Like I said I had a better plan," Embry mumbled, "It had fireworks and Paul in a Butler suit and everything..." He trailed off into a nervous chuckle.
You shook your head, "No, no. Embry it's all perfect. It's so beautiful." You wiped away the escaped tears and let Embry take the ring from the box and slide it onto your finger. He kissed your cheeks where you'd wiped away the tears.
"I hate to ruin it but is that a yes?" He whispered.
You laughed and rushed forwards to wrap your arms around his broad shoulders and covered his check in a barrage of kisses, "Of course it is! Embry of course I'll wear your promise ring! I love it."

You could feel his grin as he locked his arms around your waist and swung you around the clearing cheering and kissing your neck.
When he stopped and put you back down to the ground. You laughed, "As if I'd day no before you're about to go fight a war!"
He nuzzled his nose against yours, "I was kinda banking on that."
"Idiot." You teased and pushed his chest with your ringed hand. Embry held you close that night as you slept. If he didn't come back tomorrow then at least he'd given you one last happy memory and he could go and face his end knowing that you felt the same way about him.
