An hour later, you were in the car with Jimin, laughing and joking as he drove you to your mysterious surprise that he had planned. You were nervous but you knew Jimin was a good friend to you. You knew you were safe with him.
"So I can't even have a hint about the surprise?" You whined from the passenger seat.
"Sure. You're gonna like it." He offered sarcastically, giving you a side smirk.
You hit him playfully on his arm and scoffed, settling back into your seat.
After about 20 minutes of you begging Jimin to tell you where he was taking you and him not giving you any kind of hint, the two of you were pulling into Jimin's driveway. You looked at him, confused.
"Did you just drive us around in circles for 20 minutes and then bring me here?"
"Maybe. Had to keep you in suspense." He answered, putting the car in park.
"So, what are we doing here?" You asked, getting an unsettling feeling in your stomach. The feeling that told you something was off about this situation.
"Well, if I'm being honest, there isn't really a big, grand surprise. I just thought you might like to come over and hang out. I planned on cooking for you." Jimin turned toward you in his seat, offering you a soft smile.
You shifted slightly. You could feel your fight or flight senses kicking in and you wanted to leave. Not that you thought Jimin would hurt you in any way, but you knew how he felt about you. And you didn't want to be in this situation anymore. Why wouldn't he just tell you that in the first place?
"Jimin, I think I should go back home. This seems like a little more than just two friends going out for a good time. I didn't know we were coming back to your house." You explained softly as you stared at your hands in your lap.
"Did I do something wrong?" He asked, placing a hand on top of yours. A worried expression had crossed his face, concerned that he had messed up somehow.
"No, not at all. I just think that maybe we need to...reevaluate? I don't know, I think maybe you might have the wrong idea." You pulled your hand from underneath his gently.
"I don't have the wrong idea, y/n. I'm trying to figure out what it's going to take to make you see that I'm better for you than he is. I think I'm falling for you."
You looked at him in utter disbelief.
"Jimin, you knew I was in a relationship from the beginning. Maybe it's my fault for not stopping this before things got out of hand. But I'm in love with Namjoon. You know that. I just wanted to be your friend."
At that moment, you were suddenly hit with the urge to call Namjoon. You missed him. Wanted him to hold you. Tell you he loved you so you could tell him you loved him too. And then the shame followed.
You felt horrible for how you had been treating Namjoon. Not necessarily on purpose, but you didn't do much to reassure him either. You had let another man comfort you when he wanted to be there for you. And you may never forgive yourself for that.
"I know. It's my fault for developing these feelings for you when I knew you were in love with someone else." Jimin finally answered you, disrupting your thoughts. "But I had to try. I couldn't live in 'what-if's' so I had to at least try."
You almost felt nauseated at what you were about to say next. You were about to lose one of your closest friends. But it had to be done.
"It might be best if we spend some time apart. I let the fact that you saved me blind me to the fact that I was hurting Namjoon by giving you almost all of my attention. And now I'm hurting you. I'll always be grateful for you and I'll always owe you for what you did for me. But I think for now, goodbye is what's best for us."
A single tear rolled down your cheek as you looked at Jimin. You could see the hurt on his face, although he was trying to hide it. He leaned over and placed a soft kiss on your cheek before giving you a small smile.
"I won't say that I'm not upset. But I only want what's best for you and for you to be happy." He patted your leg gently. "Come on, I'll take you home."
The car ride back to your apartment was mostly silent. Neither one of you knew what to say to each other so you both stayed quiet.
Once Jimin dropped you off, you told him that you still wanted to keep in touch every now and then. You didn't want to lose him as a friend completely as long as he knew that's all you would be to each other. And he agreed.
After you watched him pull away, you immediately pulled out your phone and called Namjoon. You missed him and wanted to shower him with love and affection. Like you knew you should have been doing all along.
You knew Namjoon felt useless during this whole situation. He hadn't been able to comfort you the way he wanted to and giving all of your attention away certainly didn't help.
"Baby? Is everything okay?" Namjoon answered the phone with slight worry in his voice.
"I'm fine. Well, no, I'm not fine." Your voice trembled.
"What happened? Where are you?"
"I'm back at my apartment. I've been so horrible to you, Joon. I was so focused on trying to feel better and cope with what happened that I pushed you aside in the process. I'm such a lousy girlfriend, I'm so sorry. Do you think you'll ever forgive me? I'll make it up to you, I promise. I-"
"Stop." Namjoon cut you off as you cried and rambled through your words.
You sniffled, trying to control your tears as you waited for him to speak again.
"How could I ever be mad at you? I don't blame you for anything. Sure, I was jealous of Jimin and how he was the one to comfort you, but my main concern was the fact that someone was there for you and able to make you smile again. I only want you to be happy."
You bit your lip, fighting tears once again. You couldn't believe how loved he could make you feel, even just over the phone. You were so incredibly lucky.
"Can you come get me?" You finally asked. All you wanted was to be wrapped in his arms. To feel safe and loved. And to return the feeling.
"I'm already on my way baby."
