When the Starcourt Mall burnt down in the fire of 85', Steve and Robin resorted to working in the local VHS store instead. Of course if his future self could've given him any advice, he would've said it was s horrible idea.
At the store, Steve couldn't say that the customer levels were next to nothing, because that wasn't true. Hawkins just happened to be a small town. And a small town means minimal customers. While Robin assisted the customers that came through, Steve was sorting through storage in the back room.
As the door bell dinged, Steve could hear Robin exclaim excitedly to whoever walked through the door. He tried to focus on his job, but he didn't know if one of the boxes should be thrown out because of the lack of needed items. So, like any normal person would, Steve walked out of the room to ask Robin but as he watched her, his eyes followed to the person in which she was talking to.
Black curly hair that sat just below his shoulders, chocolate brown eyes that were outlined with black eyeliner, a blue, frayed denim jacket that was styled over a black leather jacket, and a shirt that said "Hellfire Club"
"Steve!" He snapped back into reality when Robin called his name. Said curly haired man was looking at him and so was Robin. "You need help with that box or what dingus?" "Huh? Oh yeah". But when he tried to give the box to Robin, it slipped out of his fingers and crashed to the floor. Steve suddenly felt his cheeks flush from embarassement as he scratched the back of his neck. He immediately got down picking the stuff back into the box, when he felt a cold hand grab onto the same object that he was.
When he looked up, the curly haired man was looking at him already. If Steve wasn't stupid, which he certainly isn't, he could see slight tints of red in the man's cheeks. They looked apart only when Robin coughed and then they snatched their hands away as they packed the rest back into the box.
"Thanks" Steve said. "No problem" The man replied. He looked back to the counter, and handed the money over as Robin passed him the VHS. "Have fun" She said as the man smiled and waved as he walked out the shop.
Robin immediately turned towards Steve who still had red in his cheeks. "What the fuck was that??" She asked. "I have no idea what your talking about" "The way you looked at him. You didn't seem keen to move your hand back so quickly either" "Robin I don't even know who that is" Robin looked almost dumbfounded by what he just said.
"That's Eddie Munson"
When the name struck his mind, he instantly winced. "You mean as in-" "The one you bullied?? Yes. Yes I do mean that Eddie. What other Eddie's live in Hawkins dingus" "Well-" Steve went to reply when Robin rolled her eyes. "Rhetorical question" She said.
"My point is that you looked at him-" "Am I not allowed to?" "Will you let me finish!!" Robin sighed and Steve leaned back on the counter. "My point is that the only other time you've looked at someone like that is Nancy" Steve still didn't get her point.
"You love him don't you?"
Steve blushed furiously at the question and started blabbering about how he's only ever liked women and that he wasn't in love with Eddie. There was no way. He liked women. He liked Nancy and, fuck, he even liked Robin. He'd never found attraction to men ever. But those eyes just looked so endless...
No. There was no possible way that Steve Harrington was in love with a man. Let alone one he used to bully. Let alone Eddie 'the freak' Munson.
"It's ok you know?" Robin said, taking him out of his panic. "What?" "It's ok to like both guys and girls. You don't have to be 100% either way" "You don't?" "Of course not you dingus. It's called being bisexual" "Bi-what now?"
Robin looked like she could smack herself on the forehead. She'd be rich if every time she had to explain something to Steve she got $5. "Bisexual. It means you like both girls and boys" "But I don't like guys. I'm straight"
Robin blinked and hummed. "Mhm. Sure. Tell me that after the next time you see him and you don't end up the way you are now" "What do you mean?" "You'll find out. Sooner or later. Now let's go, it's near enough to closing time that we can leave and close up already" Robin smiled and walked towards the door and out of the store. Steve rushed behind her and locked the doors before running after her.
"What do you mean by that?!"
