The last bit of sunlight disappeared, and the Shadowclan camp became dark. Thistlepaw licked her lips clean as she finished the small sparrow she was sharing with Rainpaw. The rest of the apprentices were nearby, murmuring to each other in excitement.

"They're so lucky." Rainpaw sighed.

"Hm?" Thistlepaw followed her sisters gaze at the three apprentices.

"Did you not hear? All of their mentors decided it was time for their warrior assessments."

"Oh wow, lucky them." Thistlepaw meowed uninterestedly.

Rainpaw raised an eyebrow.

"I thought you were totally exited to simply be an apprentice? And the thought of being a warrior doesn't even faze you?"

Thistlepaw purred in amusement.

"That might have affected me a moon ago, but after training with Blazepelt, I sorta realized the more important things in life."

"Thistlepaw? Wise and patient? Who would have thought!" Rainpaw meowed sarcastically.

"Well you've changed too! You aren't the helpless, scaredy kit I remember you to be."

"I guess becoming an apprentice changes you."

"Nah." Thistlepaw's eyes landed on Blazepelt, who was murmuring to a group of warriors. "I think being trained by the right mentor changes you."

They talked awhile longer with each other before heading off to the apprentice den.

Thistlepaw curled up into a ball in her nest and sighed in relief. The rest of the apprentices padded into the den, giggling to each other.

"I bet Dustyfur is ganna let me do a battle for my assessment." Oceanpaw meowed as she laid down in her own nest. "He knows battling is my strong suit."

"Well Forestclaw better let me do a hunting mission." Dovepaw huffed. "I'm great at scouting for prey!"

Lillypaw just nodded shyly.

"Are you nervous?" Thistlepaw whispered to the white and grey she-cat.

Lillypaw glanced at her in surprise and nodded.

"Just a little..." She whispered back, glancing at her sisters who were still talking excitedly with each other.

"You'll do great." Rainpaw murmured a few nests over. "Don't worry. Just act like its a normal training day."

Lillypaw purred to them gratefully before laying her head on her paws and closing her eyes.

Thistlepaw did the same, and soon the den was very quiet. She was slowly drifting off to sleep when suddenly, a strange noise sounded from outside the camp.

Thistlepaw was used to her strange enhanced senses, so she pricked her ears curiously. Paw steps sounded, lots of them.

Thats weird...shouldn't the patrols be back by now?

Her eyes snapped open as she sniffed the air.

Thats not Shadowclan scent...

Suddenly, loud battle cries began to abrupt from outside of the den, followed by screeches.

"What was that?!" Rainpaw yowled as yowls filled the night.

The older apprentices jumped to their paws, rushing out of the den.

"Thistlepaw!" Rainpaw meowed fearfully, her eyes wide.

"Come on!" Thistlepaw growled, leaping to her paws and out of the den.
