When I got there, I had to park at least half a mile away. Civilians were crowded up against police tape. I shoved my way through them and got to the front, showing an officer my badge. He let me through and coming in from other directions, I saw officers from different precincts, probably everyone who responded through dispatch.
Four of them jogged over to me. "You're here to help right?"
"Yeah," I replied. They were all uniformed officers, and as far as I would tell, out of all the people here, I was the only detective. "Who are you?"
"Lieutenant David Warwick of the uniformed officers, from the Seven-Two" He replied.
"Officer Jared Hilbert, Seven-Four," Another man said.
"Officer Anna Perry, Eight-Nine," a woman introduced.
"Officer Brett Jackson, from the Nine-Eight," the last guy said. These four were the ones to respond prior to me.
"Detective Diaz," I said, not bothering to give my first name. "Nine-Nine,"
"Great, a detective," Brett groaned. "All hail, the mighty one!" He mocked.
"Mock me again and I'll gouge your fucking eyes out with a teaspoon," I threatened, grabbing him by the collar and lifting him up a little. When he nodded with fear in his eyes, I dropped him.
"Do any of you know where we should be going?" Anna asked. "You know, to help?"
"I'm the Lieutenant," David said suddenly. "So I'll take over,"
I glared at him. "That is not at all what she asked--"
"Officers!" someone yelled and the five of us turned. "Get your butts over here! NOW!"
I rolled my eyes at the term officers but was the first to sprint over. "Sir?"
"Oh, good, a detective," He said, genuinely happy to see someone of my profession. "Everyone! Listen up!" He got everyone's attention, including other officers who were scattered about. "My name is Captain Ryan Chu! I am the captain of ESU, I'm in charge here! ESU is unfortunately held up, so you guys are my last resort. Rule number one-- do not let the public know that ESU is not here yet! This is an active shooter situation! We have three civilians dead and many more injured! Our first priority is to get the civilians to safety and, if needed, to medical care! I know most of you aren't here with your usual squad, but I've given as much information as I can to all precincts up till the Nine-Seven," He hasn't gotten to my precinct yet. "I'm informing the Nine-Eight now," I heard Brett let out a sigh of relief. "Introduce yourselves to one another! Get into groups! Preferable with at least one high-ranking officer, so a sergeant or lieutenant. All captains are busy!"
I looked behind me, and Anna, Jackson, Hilbert, and Warwick were already in a group. Jared waved me over. I shrugged and walked over. "Yeah,"
"You're in our group," Hilbert nodded. I looked at Warwick and cringed.
"I hope I'm not an inconvenience to Officer Jackson or Lieutenant Warwick?" I said snootily. "After all, you are just uniformed officers, while I am a mighty detective!"
"Jesus Christ," Jackson scoffed. "Just shut up, lady, no one likes detectives,"
"Chu does," I said blankly.
"Alright, quiet!" Warwick snapped and I looked at him like he was crazy. "What is your name, Detective Diaz, you're full name? I like to refer to my subordinates by their first name!"
"It's Rosa and you do know that I outrank you, right?" I scoffed, speeding right past my name. "You're a lieutenant for the uniformed officers. I'm a detective, which means even though I'm not a lieutenant or a captain, I still outrank you,"
