Present Time
"I know," I said bluntly. "I'm a genius,"
Chu frowned at me. "So you pretended to be intoxicated? And then gave a Lieutenant a weapon that is not police-issued?"
"I have a license," I said.
"Detective Diaz, that is highly irregular," Chu said sternly.
"So is a shooting at a hotel," I responded. "Guess everything's a little irregular. Also, what does it matter? We got the guys,"
"Officer Perry is severely injured!" he yelled.
"I told her to stay put!" I yelled back. "She didn't listen!"
Chu looked at me incredulously. "Excuse me?!"
"Captain Chu, if I may?" Warwick interjecting. Chu nodded reluctantly. "Today has been tough, no one here other than the shooters planned on being here. But all of us, including Rosa, decided to come here to help and put the shooters away. Detective Diaz was put into a stressful, volatile situation that most of us probably haven't been in and took charge. Had she not said anything, I wouldn't have ever guessed that she didn't know what to do. Rosa was able to admit her hesitance and ask me for advice. And after I didn't give anything that could be useful to her, she moved forward and immediately came up with a working plan. Now, I hate detectives," I glared at him and Chu sighed. "I hate them. I find them to be condescending, snooty, and rude know-it-alls. But Rosa did not once let that affect the way she worked, and despite her cold and rough exterior, she's one of the best detectives I've ever worker with,"
I looked at Warwick, gave him a short but thankful nod, and he was taken away into the ambulance. I then turned back to Captain Chu. "Just so you know, he said all of that on his own volition. I didn't threaten him in any way,"
"Good to know," He said flatly. He stood there, thinking for a moment. "Alright, fine. I won't punish you. But, on my orders, I want you to keep up with Officer Perry and Lieutenant Warwick time in the hospital, as a friend,"
"They aren't my friends," I said.
"On. My. Orders," Chu said darkly. "Do you understand, Detective Diaz?"
I stared him down. "Yes, sir,"
"Good. Then you can go back to your precinct," He said. "The captain of the Nine-Seven seems to have gotten multiple calls from a Captain Raymond Holt," I stood up straighter. "I heard he's the captain of the Nine-Nine. That's your precinct, correct?"
"Yeah, it is," I nodded, putting my hands into the pockets of my leather jacket.
"He's very persistent," Chu sighed. "Very worried for you, and he says the squad is very worried as well,"
"I'll tell them to cool it next time," I nodded.
"No, no!" Chu said. "No other captains were that worried about their officers, lieutenants, or sargeants! Most only called once or twice to ask for updates, Captain Holt, your captain, called 23 times, 7 of which were answered. Yes, in the moment, it was an annoyance, but the fact that he and the rest of your squad cares enough to call that many times really means something. I've never heard of a squad with such a bond as yours... what are their names?"
