"Morning Jade, I have some news!" My mom said as she stood opposite me. "Ooo what is it mom?" I asked intrigued in our conversation. "I've been seeing somebody, and I'd like you to meet him today at lunch, he will be moving in with us to help me out with you and everything since i've been stressing out so much. I know it's a big change but I think it would be great, he is real nice!" My mother announced making my jaw nearly drop to the ground, I was happy she found somebody but I swear if he is no good to my mother I would do something about it this time. "That's great mom I'm happy for you except if he is a jerk then I will be so mad."I chuckled as she placed a kiss on my forehead. We started to leave the house for church and I saw Lenora and sat next to her.
It seemed like forever until the church started to finish up and everybody started to leave as well as us. I saw Arvin glancing at me a few times as the preacher which I was not very fond of spoke but I decided to ignore his glances except for the fact that I smiled to myself a few times. "Hey Jade!" Arvin shouted too me running up to beside me. "Hey Arvie!!" I said messing up is hair since he didn't have a cap on and I had the chance to. "You left your purse in my car the other day." He said as he passed my purse too me. "Oh so that's where it went thank you Arvin." I said placing a kiss on his cheek then walking to my car as he placed his hand on the place I had kissed him and he turned light pink in the face.
"So, are we going to lunch now? I can't wait to meet this guy mom!" I said as I put my seatbelt on. My mom was smiling as she saw what had happened in front of her seeing her baby who was not much of a baby anymore kissing a guy that was great for her on the cheek. "Yeah we are!" She said as she started the car. "So, Arvin do you like him?" My mom asked being nosy and referring to how I kissed him on the cheek. "MOM!" I shouted in defence. "He's cute, did you see the way he blushed when you kissed his cheek, if there was one boy i'd pick for my daughter too go out with it'd definitely be him." My mom said as she drove to the restaurant we will be eating at for lunch. "Well, to bad because me and Arvin are just friends and even if I did like him he'd definitely rather be with somebody else not me i'm out of his league." I said as I played with the fringe on my purse thinking about the conversation we were having. Suddenly, we came to a stop and we were at the restaurant. "We're here!" My mom said enthusiasm pumping in her as she got out of the car me right behind. I saw the preacher sitting at a table alone and I was hoping it wasn't him, but then my worst fear came true my mother was seeing the preacher that embarrassed poor Emma in front of all the other church goers. Out of all people my mom had to be going out with it was this jerk. I sat down trying not make a scene, as I watched my mom put her hand in his. "Honey, meet Preston Teagardin!" She introduced him placing her head on his shoulder. I was too stunned to speak and she was starting to get worried when I didn't say anything for a few minutes. "Jade?" She said trying to get me out of a spell of some sort. "Yeah, hi." I said crossing my arms. "I think this is great he is the preacher which means he is definitely not a jerk and he can teach you about God and get you and I closer to him since we have been drifting away." My mom said as she smiled happier than ever. I wanted to see my mom happy but not with him he was a jerk. "Yeah, great." I said my tone sounding disappointing making my mom upset. He suddenly put his hands on top of mine which made me want to vomit, like did I say you could touch me? no. "Jade, I know how different this must be but I love your mother and I will do whatever I can for you and your mother." He said a small smile on his face. I didn't buy any of this bullshit he just wanted to ruin my mothers life he wanted to get the sweetest woman much like Emma and manipulate her.
"And then he asked me to get a drink with him." My mom chuckled telling me the story of how her and Preston started going out whilst I drank my coke not interested in anything. All I wanted to do was go home and wish that my mom could have met somebody much better but it would never have happened.
* Time skip *
It was now night time and I was still awake thinking about how the preacher that made me so mad for the past few weeks was now gonna be living in my own house. I needed some fresh air so I put a jacket on and went outside. I saw Arvin was outside smoking a cigarette of course, I walked up to him jumping on the top of his car roof. "Hey." I sighed sounding upset. "Everything alright?" Arvin asked as he smoked on his cigarette. "Not really." I said honestly. "Tell me whats up." He said as he looked up at me. "My mom is seeing that darn preacher and he is gonna be moving into my house tomorrow, why out of all people him? Of course it would be somebody I hate that's just how my life works" As I tilted my head back in frustration. "Need a hug?" Arvin asked as he opened his arms wide open. I chuckled, "nah, I don't do hugs." I said as I jumped off the roof of the car letting him embrace me in a deep hug that without even noticing lasted way longer than it should have. It sounded weird but it felt so right to be in his warmth, it felt nice to be in his presence, it felt amazing to be this close to him and most of all I wanted to be there forever. Did I like Arvin? There was no way he would most definitely not like me back. "Arvin can I ask you something?" I said as I was still embraced in his hug. "Shoot." He said as he stroked my hair with his hand in a way of comfort. "When you like somebody what does it feel like?" I asked hoping he wouldn't be too suspicious of my question. He suddenly released from the hug put his hands on my shoulders looking into my eyes as I looked at his. "It feels right and you feel like you can trust them with anything, it feels like you can be with them for hours, stare at them for hours and never get bored and you get butterflies whenever you look at them or touch them." He said looking straight into my eyes. "Why?" He asked now curious to what I meant. "Nothing no reason, that was a really beautiful way of describing it though Arvin." I said as we stood at his car for an hour talking about everything. Maybe I did like him...but that's not a bad thing at all..
