EIGHT|GOOD NEWS VS BAD NEWS

Bernadette sighed with relief as she spotted familiar faces walking towards the boat shed, wandering over to wooden crate and perching herself on it.

"Jesus Christ!" Eddie snapped in fear, aiming his broken bottle at the group bursting through the door.

"Delivery service!" Dustin said enthusiastically, showing off the bags of supplies they had brought.

Eddie sighed with relief, happily taking a bag and grabbing a box of cereal. He shoveled the dry cereal into his mouth eagerly, ignoring Birdie as she tried to steal a handful of cereal.

"Did he hurt you?" Steve checked over his sister, worried the freak might have harmed her with the broken bottle.

"I'm fine, Steven." Birdie rolled her eyes at the older boy, throwing the cereal in her mouth. "Eddie was a complete gentleman."

"So we got, uh, some good news and some bad news." Dustin informed the pair, ignoring Steve's complaints about his sister spending time with Eddie alone. "How do you prefer it?"

"Bad news first, always." Eddie answered, barely stopping eating.

"Yeah, that's like common sense." Birdie added, trying to steal some more cereal before he devoured it all.

"All right. Bad news." Dustin sighed before revealing the news. "We tapped into the Hawkins PD dispatch with our Cerebro, and they're definitely looking for you. Also, they're, uh, pretty convinced you killed Chrissy."

"Like, 100% kind of convinced." Max added, growing the seriousness of the situation.

"I fucking hate the PD." Birdie snapped, standing up in frustration as she searched for her cigarettes. "They will instantly blame anyone they know who don't have the money to fight back and have a bad reputation to them. It's fucking pathetic."

"And the good news?" Eddie asked, reaching out and grabbing Birdie's hand, forcing her to sit back down beside him. He held her hand tightly, only letting her know how scared he truly was.

"Your name hasn't gone public yet." Robin smiled enthusiastically, trying to reassure the older boy. "But if we found out about you, it's a matter of time before others do. And once that gets out, everyone and their shallow minded mother is gonna be gunning for you."

"Hunt the freak, right?" He snapped, glancing up at Robin. Bernadette squeezed his hand, her worry growing as she realised Eddie had been thrown straight into the middle of this new hell.

"Exactly."

"Shit."

"So, before that happens, we need to find Vecna, kill him, and prove your innocence." Dustin explained the plan, trying to reassure the older boy.

"That's all, Dustin? That's all?" Eddie replied sarcastically.

"Yeah, no, that's pretty much it." The boy nodded along, realising how much easier his plan was to say then do.

"Listen, Eddie, I know everything Dustin is saying sounds totally delusional, but we've actually been through this before." Robin began to ramble. "I mean, they have a few times and I have once. Mine was more human-flesh-based, theirs was more smoke-related, but bottom line is, collectively, I really feel we got this."

"We usually rely on this girl who has super powers." Steve added with a casual shrug, acting as if that was normal. "But, uh, those went bye bye, so..."

"So we're technically in more of the brain storming phase." The girl continued to ramble, helping Steve explain their current situation.

"There's nothing to worry about." Dustin spluttered, trying to keep Eddie calm.

"I'm so sorry." Birdie mumbled, sighing as she realised the group had no plan other than to kill Vecna.

Eddie raised his brows at the group, waiting for them to realise how unplanned they were appearing. His body froze as the distant sound of sirens filled the air, forcing everyone into panic mode.

"Tarp!" They all snapped, helping Eddie hide under the tarp of the small boat. Birdie sprinted over to the window, watching as police cars and an ambulance raced past the house and further down the street.

"Shit, we have to go." She glanced at the others, all of them understanding that this could mean there is a new victim. Birdie raced over to the boat, ripping off the tarp and spotting a scared Eddie.

"There's been another victim, hasn't there?" He questioned, seeing the urgency in her eyes.

"Stay safe and hidden." Birdie leaned down, planting her lips on his briefly before following the others out the boat shed and towards Steve's car.

Robin stared at the girl with curiousity, a giant grin on her lips as she waited for Birdie to explain what they had all just witnessed.
