TEN|GIRLS TRIP
Bernadette leaned back against her seat, rolling her eyes as Robin let out another exclamation of shock. After her very detailed account of what happened between her and Eddie, Nancy sat in silence with her face flushed red while Robin repeated "wow" over and over with a giant grin.
"I don't know why you're so shocked, I dated Billy." She shrugged, watching as Nancy pulled into the carpark of the library. "Wait, so why are we here."
"I just need to do some research." Nancy answered before explaining to the pair what she was wanting to find out.
"Okay, help me get this straight." Robin began to repeat everything Nancy had just told them. "Eddie's uncle, Wayne, thinks that Victor Creek escaped from Pennhurst Asylum and that he's the one running around committing these murders?"
"That's exactly what Nancy just said." Birdie inputted, sighing as she pulled Robins jacket further over her body, grateful for the heat it was giving her.
"But Victor committed the eyeball murders, like, way back in the fifties." The girl reminded them, trying to piece the information together.
"Well, fifty-nine." Nancy corrected her, opening the doors to the library and letting the other two in.
"So, that means these murders predate Eleven in the Upside Down by about thirty years?" Robin continued to find the flaws in Nancy's idea. "Which makes spooking Victor Creek like seventy years old. So, he's a grandpa murderer who can turn invisible and lift people into the air."
"It's an idea, Robin." Birdie wrapped her arms around the taller girl, stepping on her tip toes to rest her chin on Robin's shoulder. "Might as well look into every lead we can find."
"It doesn't make sense, I know." Nancy added, ringing the bell to alert the librarian. "That's why I said it was a shot in the dark."
"I know. I just thought that by "shot in the dark", you were being modest or hiding something super solid up your sleeve that you were gonna wow us with later." Robin rambled. "But this is really, truly a shot in the dark. Like, we are snipers with blindfolds on who've been spun around 50 times."
Nancy ignored her friends questioning, her finger pressing against the bell rapidly as she desperately tried to gain the librarians attention. The older woman finally came around the corner with an armful of books, smiling at the three girls.
"Hi. Sorry, we're in a bit of a rush." Nancy greeted the librarian with an apology. "Could we get the keys to the basement archives?"
"Of course." The librarian placed her books down on the counter. "Give me one second."
"Did I come off mean or condescending or something?" Robin suddenly stated, spinning her full attention to Nancy once the librarian had walked away.
"No."
"Kinda." Birdie said honestly, shrugging off any negative connotations to her agreement.
"Right." Robin sighed, becoming jittery as she tried to explain herself. "Sorry. It's just, you seem annoyed. You don't know me very well. I don't really have a filter or a strong grasp of social cues. If I say something that upsets you, just know that I know it's a flaw. Believe me, my mother reminds me daily."
"Robin." The cheerleader placed her hand on her friends shoulder. "It's not a flaw. It's a personality flare. It's the flavouring that makes you so unique and lovable so stop worrying. Okay?"
"All right, ladies." The librarian walked back over to them with the keys, interrupting their strange heartfelt moment. "Here you go. Have fun."
"Yep, we'll try." Nancy awkwardly took the keys and led the other two girls to the basement.
