THREE|REUNION

Bernadette shuffled her hips backwards into the heat source behind her, feeling a heavy weight over her waist as a beam of sun shined through the gap in the curtains. Soft snores sounded behind her, reminding her she wasn't alone. She glanced over her shoulder, spotting Eddie still fast asleep behind her, his arms holding her close, hair messily over his pillow, strands glued to his face from drool.

She slipped out from under the covers, checking she had not woken him up. Once she heard his snoring continue, she wandered into the kitchen for a glass of water. She froze in her steps, coming face to face with an older man who had just walked into the trailer.

"Morning." Birdie said politely, pulling the oversized Hellfire shirt further down her bare legs. "I'm Bernadette Harrington."

"Harrington? I'm Wayne Munson." The older man shook her hand, chuckling quietly once he took in her appearance. "Glasses are in the top cupboard on the left."

"Thank you." She quickly grabbed a glass, filling it with water before running back to Eddie's room. Drinking the water, she lay back down beside the boy, jumping when she felt his arms wrap around her and pull her back into his chest.

"Morning, sweetheart." Eddie mumbled, his morning voice startling her as he whispered in her ear. "Sleep okay?"

"I haven't slept so well in a long time." Birdie rolled over to face him, pushing his hair away from his eyes. "I did not expect any of this."

"I don't think anyone would believe me if I told them." He said honestly, noticing she was wearing his shirt. "Shit."

"The freak and the cheerleader." She laughed, trailing her hand down his bare chest. "What an amazing unlikely mix."

"It was amazing."

"So amazing that you have to get ready for school." Birdie sat up, ignoring his stare as she slipped her clothes back on. "Here, I'll let you keep it for the last day before Spring Break."

"So generous." Eddie stood up, grabbing her jaw and crashing his lips on hers. The kiss was quick and hot, leaving her desperate for more. "I'll see you later."

"Enjoy school, Munson." She waved goodbye to him before slamming her foot on the accelerator, racing home to get ready to meet her friends later.

Bernadette leaned against the bonnet of her car, watching as Valarie and Lillian ran towards her. The three friends quickly embraced, all gushing over how much they missed each other.

"Let's go get lunch! I'm starving." Val complained, linking arms with Birdie and Lilly, dragging them towards the canteen. "Birdie, you've missed so much! Lucy Hillren is pregnant!"

"I've heard." Birdie informed her, looking around the old canteen she had spent very little time in. "I have a new gossip source."

"Who?"

"My little secret." Her eyes darted around the canteen, trying to spot some familiar faces. She waved enthusiasticly at her old cheerleading squad, excited to see them all.

"Birdie?" A familiar voice said excitedly from behind her, startling her as she spun around, grinning widely when she saw who it was.

"Dusty Bun? I have missed you so much!" She threw her arms around the small boy, holding him close. "You're in high school now?"

"I am." Dustin grinned widely at her, happy to see her back in Hawkins. "You're back early?"

"I didn't have any important classes so I came home early." Birdie shrugged before noticing him wearing a Hellfire shirt. "D&D? I'm proud of you."

"Mike and Lucas also joined." He informed her, glancing back at the table where Eddie sat, watching the pair closely.

"You've gotten tall." She turned her attention to Mike who had remained silent the entire time, smiling at the older girl. "I'll see you boys later? Steve is dragging me to the basketball game."

"How many children are you friends with?" Lilly questioned, watching the two boys walk away.

"I can't believe you are friends with people from the satanic cult." Val added, raising a brow at the brunette girl. "That club is full of freaks." She said it loud enough for the table of Hellfire Club members to hear.

"Don't judge people before you get to know them." Birdie stated coldly before sitting down at an empty table with her food, waiting for the other two to join her.

"Oh, my god." The ginger girl gasped, staring at Bernadette wide eyed. "California has changed you. Where did that judgemental cold heart go?"

"I lost it when I lost Billy." She knew his name would dampen the mood but wanted to silence Valarie from insulting her friends anymore.

"As long as you're into band, or science, or parties." A loud voice caused the girls to turn around, watching as Eddie Munson walked across a table. "Or a game where you toss balls into laundry baskets."

"You want something, freak?" Jason stood up from the table of basketball players, advancing towards Eddie.

Eddie pulled a face at the boy before turning around on the table, noticing Birdie watching with an amused grin. He sent her a subtle wink before walking back to his seat.

"What a freak." Val scoffed at Eddie's behaviour. "At least his weed makes up for it."

"You can't hate the dealer." Lily chuckled, remember the many times after stressful games or parties the three would lock themselves up in someone's bedroom and smoke weed to de-stress from life.

After saying her final goodbyes, Bernadette wandered down the quiet halls towards the car park. A hand grabbed her arm, pulling her aside and pressing her against the lockers.

"Meet me again tonight." Eddie mumbled lowly, not wanting anyone to overhear their conversation. "I have a D&D session then a sale but after that."

"I'll be at your trailer." Birdie stepped closer, whispering against his lips before stepping back and walking away, knowing his eyes were on her.
