Chapter Ten -
Felix had no idea what he was doing. He stood staring at the flowers in his hand while Luna asked the receptionist for directions. After lunch, he went home to shower and change quickly, returning to campus for Changbin's status. The nurse had been hesitant at first in providing updates on the omega, but after Luna's insistence she obliged. He had been transferred to the hospital for further treatment on staff recommendation. She suspected that he had torn his ACL and likely required surgery. Now he was here feeling like an idiot despite his best friend's reassurances.
"He's still in the emergency medical center." His gaze shifted from the flowers to her face, and he frowned.
"Maybe we should go."
"Why?"
"I don't think he wants to see me, and," he lifted the bouquet. "Isn't this a bit lame?"
"Felix," she sighed, wrapping her arm around his shoulders and urging him forward. "The only way to become friends with someone is by reaching out."
"I know, but if you saw the way he looked at me earlier-"
"Remember our plan," she interrupted, pausing to stare at him with a stern expression. "Chan and Minho will be here too, and our goal is to befriend them. It's a plus that we also are dropping off a gift for Changbin. It's a good gesture, and if he treats you badly, then he is the one who looks bad, not us." Felix groaned, pulling away from the beta and tugging on his blonde hair.
"I don't want to make him look bad!"
"You're missing the point." She reached for him again this time encasing him in a hug which he melted into resting his forehead against her shoulder.
"Why is this so complicated?" he mumbled, causing his friend to laugh, patting his back in comfort.
"It doesn't have to be. Just trust me, okay?" After a few moments he agreed, stepping back and shaking out his arms letting out a deep breath.
"Okay! Let's do it!" Luna grinned, linking her arm with his, leading him towards the ER.
The room was half filled, various beds lining the walls with privacy curtains either completely closed or hanging loose at vacant spaces. Their eyes scanned the area until they spotted the black-haired omega lying down with an arm thrown over his eyes. His leg was elevated on a set of pillows ice securely wrapped around his knee. Felix bit his lip at the sight excitement and nerves igniting in his stomach like a swarm of butterflies. Luna began to drag him toward the male when she stopped Felix nearly tripping at the sudden halt.
"Changbin!" the frantic lilt of Hyunjin's voice carried in the emergency block easily cutting through the noise and chatter of other patients. When the blonde's eyes locked onto his boyfriend his tone became more panicked. "Hyung," he gasped reaching his side in just a few short strides. "Changbin hyung!"
The older male didn't budge; he remained completely still as if he had not heard his name. Hyunjin appeared hesitant, hands flexing at his sides, chest heaving from what Felix assumed to have been from running. He was unable to see the other's face from where they stood and when Hyunjin turned in their direction Luna flung them towards an empty bed pulling the curtain around them. They both took a moment to settle their nerves, staring at each other with wide eyes at how close they came to being seen. Several seconds later, after they were sure they hadn't been caught, they shuffled to the curtain slowly peering out to watch the couple.
"Hyung, tell me what happened. Are you okay? What did the doctors say?" he lifted his hands once more but before he could touch him Changbin moved. Instantly the omega was sitting up, turning his body towards Hyunjin forgetting he was injured. His leg slipped from the pillows at the motion and he cried out angrily cursing at the pain that surged through his limb.
