"Thought I'd find you here." You smiled, finally finding the person you were searching for. Shaun, or more accurately Shang-chi, looked at you and smiled back, motioning for you to sit next to him.

"Hey, Y/n." His voice was somber, but you could tell he tried to be uplifting.

Last weekend was utterly, completely, indubitably normal. It was Friday and your weekly sleepover and game of UNO with Shaun and Katy. You won at the end, being ridiculously good at the game, Katy was second and Shaun only took the win a couple times. It was 2:28 when all three of you went to sleep. You'd done it a million times before and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

It was the next day that everything changed to its head. A bunch of random men wearing black broke into your house while you were having lunch and took you away to a deserted area of the San Francisco Metro Station. Your two friends were there too but they weren't bound by ropes like you were.

"Why the hell would you drag Y/n into this!?" You heard Shaun yell at someone, to which they replied in Chinese. The next thing you knew, Katy removed your ropes and gave you a bottle of water, whispering a sorry at the end. You didn't want to believe that your own best friends had kidnapped you.

Thankfully, that wasn't the case, as the two valets took turns explaining the whole situation, about Shang-chi and the legend of the ten rings. It took you a while to come to terms with what they were saying, especially about Shaun's father being over a thousand years old because of some fancy jewellery he found one day. But at the end, everything worked out, thanks to some proof and glares from the men who rudely interrupted your lunch.

You accompanied them on their second trip to Ta Lo, where you learnt that Shaun's sister was rebranding a terrorist group instead of shutting it down completely. After experiencing whiplash for the first time, you were in awe at the mystical village before you, with all its weird but cool animals. Shaun disappeared into a golden-roofed building after that, never to be seen again... until now.

The night sky in Ta Lo, was phenomenal. The sky was always magically clear so you could easily see the bewitching stars.

"The view's great from up here." You mused, staring.

"It is... I always come here if I feel down." Shaun said, touching the grass underneath.

"Is it safe to assume your conversation with Xialing didn't go well?"

"She's so stubborn! Why would anyone think of rebranding a group like the Ten Rings!?"

"Katy told me about the dreadful things your father's organisation has done, but your sister is a good person, just like you. I can sense that." You said, putting your hand on his shoulder. Shaun leaned into your touch and closed his eyes.

"She isn't a bad person, but sometimes she can get a bit carried away while trying to prove something. Dad was originally going to pass on the actual rings and the organisation over to me, but after running away and abandoning Xialing, I guess her opinion of me changed for the worse."

"Surely her opinion of you must have changed after what happened the last time you came here."

"I-I don't know..." Shaun looked at you as you lied down on the weirdly soft grass, some of its tips tickling your ears. He did the same, but crossing his arms beneath his head.

"Y'know, see those three stars over there? That's Orion's Belt." You said, pointing to the night sky.

"Yeah, of course I know that. Everyone knows that-" Shaun said, shifting a little closer to you. You did the same, leaving only centimeters of space between you.

"Orion was Artemis' first and only lover, before she decided to stay a virgin."

"He was killed by Apollo, right? Artemis' twin brother?"

"Yep, shot by an arrow." Your fingers grazed slightly, before you slipped your hand in his, fitting together perfectly like a puzzle piece.

Shaun knew you liked Greek mythology, and seeing you talk about it so expertly made him giddy and warm inside. He just held your hand securely as you talked about the tales of Zeus' wet dreams.

Time went by like a tire unbound by friction and before he knew it, you were sound asleep. He didn't bother moving you to a more comfortable environment because the grass was just fine but he did adjust his position to be more comfortable. He didn't know it but he had a small smile on his face, and thanked the Great Protector for meeting you, before drifting away to dreamland himself, with you appearing in every one of his dreams.
