~MARIA POV~

We tried to keep up with the boy, but he went to fast and he took our arms with him. Finally he realized he just had hold of our arms, which was not attached to our bodies.

We caught up to him, and we put our arms back on.

💀💀💀

We sat in an alleyway, Hector was doing the boys makeup to look like skeletons with his shoe polish.

At, ay, hold still," Hector told him. "Look up, up, up, up."

"Ta-da!" Hector cheered.

"So, listen, Miguel," Hector said. "This place runs on memories. When you're well remembered, people put up your photo and you get to cross the bridge Dia de Muertos." Hector snatches the mirror from Miguel and threw it over his shoulder. "Unless your me and Maria."

"You mean neither of you get to cross?"

"No one's ever put our pictures up," I shrugged. "But you can change that!"

We each handed Miguel a picture of each of us.

"This was you?" Miguel asked Hector.

"Eh, muy guapo, eh?" He asked.

"So you get, me, to my great-great grandpa and sister, then I put your photos up when I get home?"

Hector and I smiled excitedly.

"Such a smart kid! Great idea, yes! One hiccup. De La Cruz is a tough guy to get too, and we need to cross the bridge soon. Like tonight. So any of you got other family here? Someone a bit more accessible?"

"Nope."

"Come on don't yank my chain, chamaco. You three have to have some other family!"

"Nope! Just De La Cruz!"

Tio Hector And I shared a look. We really did not want to see them after everything they did to us.

"If you can't help us, we'll find De La Cruz ourselves."

"Oh! Okay! Okay! Okay! Kids, fine! Fine! We'll help you get to your great-great grandpa and sister!"
