Rough, small, scratches were sounded as Hilda sat at her desk, sketching a troll under her dimly-lit lamp. Twig lay on the floor crouched into a little white, fluffy ball, his chest rising and falling as he snoozed.
As Hilda made her finishing touches, she arched her back and straightened her arms, letting out a long, soft yawn. She blinked and turned to see the deerfox rolled onto his back, his little tiny legs bent as he stretched, his tail waving smoothly from left to right.
"It's quite late, isn't it, Twig?" Hilda smiled as she bent down to scratch Twig behind his horns. "Mum's not even back yet. She doesn't usually come back this late, maybe she's just running late because the errand she had to run was... difficult?"
Twig grunted as he sat down, tilting his head. Hilda heaved a heavy sigh and leaned back on the backrest of her chair. Just moments later a click was heard from the front door. Twig yelped and rushed to the door, standing on his hind hooves, scratching the door with his front.
"Mum's home!" Hilda exclaimed as she leapt off her seat, rushing to the door, opening it to see her exhausted mother, who tossed her bag onto the sofa, rubbing her half-asleep eyes.
"Mum! What took you so long! I was so worried!" Hilda asked as she ran forward to hug her mother.
"Sorry... just in case you were wondering, the errand I ran was fine. Just that, on my way home I met someone, who seemed lost and scared, so I thought of bringing him back here with me." Johanna sighed as she patted Hilda's head.
"What? Who?" Hilda pushed away and leaned to her right to see if there was anyone behind her.
"Oh! Here, Tontu gave me an old, but clean blanket to wrap him up. He's pretty small for a baby isn't he?"
Hilda looked down as Johanna slowly removed the top of the blanket, eyes wide as Twig crouched behind her, sniffing for danger. Inside was a, indeed tiny, baby with sea-blue eyes. He had short small, spiky-looking, silver-coloured hair.
"I thought we could bring him in since he was abandoned. I found him near the dumps on the curb and he looked so cold. So, I've decided to adopt him. Meet your new brother Luke." Johanna smiled, nearly proudly. Hilda stepped forward and stared at the baby, who let out a small light yawn. Hilda giggled as she leaned closer, staring at the baby's blue eyes, which somewhat seemed... out of the ordinary. Hida smiled as she greeted him, "Hi! I'm Hilda - wait... brother?!"
