"Outcast" A Novel by Yunie Park
Yunie Park, whom we fondly call 'Anu,' is someone unique. At the tender age of 13, she authored this novel titled "Outcast"! This work is clear proof of her unparalleled talent that marks her as a genius in making. No wonder, you would be intrigued by the story, beginning to end. She arouses in our hearts a variety of candid emotions like compassion, concern, empathy, benevolence, and hope that caresses us with a sense of relief. Anu's 'Outcast' amazes us.
My first acquaintance with Anu was in Kannur, back in 2014. Ever since I used to meet her almost on a daily basis as she attended the morning worship at the Bishop's House chapel. Like every child of her age, I found her bubbly, vibrant and vivacious, splendidly inquisitive, and yet occasionally very pensive, all pointing to her creative mind and cognizance. Whenever she came to my office with her parents, her eyes would curiously wander on the bookshelves, eager to select the one she craved to borrow. She was not only a voracious reader but also a critical analyst, exceptional for a girl of her age.
In 'Outcast,' we come across Jung, the young protagonist of 13, who steals our full attention. Del, his imaginative friend entertains him with her charming presence all around him – whether in a gentle breeze or at his bedside, or even in her enticing silhouette with her brown hair flying softly in the summer air, which is so real to him, but so absurd to his worried parents. The unexpected twists and turns of the plot make the story so intriguing and absorbing. Yes, as Yunie would tell us in the opening sentence through her peer, Jung: "It's both a blessing and a curse to be able to feel everything, so very deeply."
What Anu felt so deeply within her became a unique blessing to the world of literature! I wish that she discovers new horizons in her literary pursuits.
