LIKED BY NAI2TRAPPYTHE WHOLE DAY, CHANAÏS HAD BEEN feeling as if she had a huge fever weight on her shoulders. her kiss with mason occurred exactly six days ago, and since then, the two haven't spoken.
she didn't know what to say to him, and he felt like he'd be pushing it a but far if he contacted her first. but she also wanted it to be him that initiated the conversation, because she did want to talk about it, but just didn't know how to without making it seem awkward.
by the time the evening came by, chanaïs found herself overthinking the whole situation. doubting whether she should tell jadon or someone else, she let out a huge groan. never did i ever think this would happen to me, she thought to herself.
she's known mason for a total of three months now. usually, it would take her a lot longer to develop feelings for someone she had just met, but mason seemed different — and it was a different that annoyed the hell out of her.
she was just about to settle on a film to watch to ease her mind when her phone began to rang, the handle reading mason's name. in that moment, chanaïs froze, not knowing what to do. it wasn't like she could just hang up, then he'd know she was definitely avoiding her. and as much as she wanted to, she couldn't just watch it ring because when mason had his mind set on something, he wouldn't let anything get in the way of it, and she knew that.
so after a couple of rings, she accepted the call and placed it on speaker, the silence blanketing the room.
"erm, hello?" mason's voice rang through, and chanaïs felt herself feel unexpectedly calmer at the sound of it.
"hi." this is going to be a long call, she mentally face palmed. she could hear shuffling on the other side of the call, part of her wishing it was a facetime rather than an audio call.
"how have you been? i haven't heard from you in a while" mason asked, and chanaïs was glad that he didn't radiate any awkwardness about what had happened between them.
"i've been good, you know, studying and all that," she partially lied; most of her 'studying' consisted of looking up nearest stripper clubs for a part time job and procrastinating about her life. "what about you?"
"more or less the same. i've been babysitting summer for the past two days, so that's been eventful."
the pause after that was a little too overbearing for both parties, either one wishing the other would say something to keep the awkwardness at bay.
"so about the other day—"
"we should talk about—" they both spoke over each other, a small laugh leaving mason's lips, and chanaïs could almost visualise it. get a hold of yourself.
"you go first" she offered.
"well, i was just going to say, i hope i didn't make you uncomfortable or anything by, erm, kissing you and that. kinda thought i did since you've been avoiding me for a bit."
"i haven't been avoiding you..."
"i saw you walk into the room and back out when you saw me at jadon's the other day."
"oh, you saw that?"
and mason laughed again at that, and it eased someone of the tension between them.
"if it makes you feel better, you didn't make me uncomfortable. i liked it," she said quietly. "fucking hell, that was so cringe, i'm sorry."
with the much dreaded conversation out of the way, the two talked endlessly into the night, eventually switching to facetime and after being caught staring at her instead of listen to what she was saying one to many times, mason found himself falling deeper and deeper for chanaïs.
"did you hear what i said?"
"you have really nice eyes."
"typical white man," she mumbled.
"what? i'm trying to compliment you, at least accept it."
the girl found herself laughing softly at what he said, hiding her flustered face away from the camera.
"so... when can i see you again?" mason eased slowly, not wanting to overstep any boundaries.
"woah, might as well get out a ring" chanaïs joked.
"not yet, it's a bit early for that. but let me know your ring size, yeah?" he winked at her.
her mind get running over the words "not yet", which three months ago wouldn't have had any meaning to her than they do now.
"hello? nai?"
"how's tomorrow sound?"
"sounds perfect."
