I awoke gasping for air. The shock of the dream triggered a panic attack. Every second that I couldn't catch my breath, the more I began to get afraid. It was Emmett's voice I heard encouraging me that everything is ok; I finally started to calm down. I opened my eyes and realized it was just a dream..... At least I'd hoped.
" Are you ok?" Emmett asked.
"Yes... I'm sorry if I scared you. I had a bad dream." I replied.
" Do you want to talk about it?"
"No. It was nothing but I am awake now and starving."
"Ok... I'll go get you a cup." He said and was gone before I could tell him please. Of course he was back in a flash.
Thinking out loud I said "I don't think I'll get used to seeing that."
"What do you mean? You was a vampire not that long ago."
"Well... Yes, but I was a vampire when I found out about it all. Experiencing it as human now is definitely different. Bella must have gotten pretty annoyed with us at times."
"She seemed to handle it well, I think." He responded.
We sat there talking a bit longer, all the while I drank my cup. At about 8 that morning I began to smell food cooking, so I decided to go down for breakfast. Esma had fixed breakfast for those who was going to eat that morning. Deja vu began to come over me when Jessica came in. Just like my dream, she showed up first without Edward or Bella, but with Alice instead. I told them to wait for me in the living room.
Everything in my dream began to play out just as it had before. I began to question myself. Was my dream a premonition did I somehow see into the future as Alice did? I don't know. All I could do was take from what I had seen in my dream and compare it to what was happening now. All of it lind up perfectly. Up until Jessica throw me out the window.Instead I didn't stop Jessica this time. I let her follow Bella outside. An overwhelming feeling was telling me I wouldn't see her again anytime soon. I hated to let her go but by now I was sure my dream was infact a premonition. I didn't want to make the same mistake again. After I was sure they had left I turned to look at Eleazar and asked "Was I right Eleazar?"
He turned to Carlisle and said "Renesmee wasn't the only one Rose asked me to come see. She has good reason to be suspicious of Jessica and Rose was right. Jessica has the gift of compulsion. She can persuade those around her in to believe what she wants. A useful gift but not an uncommon one. She is using it on all of you that I can tell."
"Are you sure?" Edward asked with a look of hurt and anger on his face.
All Eleazar did was nod, just then Edward was gone a long with Jasper, Emmett, and Carlisle. I knew they wouldn't find her. I don't know how I knew. I just did. Looking down at my stomach I began to wonder if that dream I had was mine at all.
Just then Bella came in with Renesmee in her arms. A look of confusion on her face. " What's going on?" She asked. "Edward told me to get Renesmee and go inside. Something to do with Jessica not being honest. What happened while I been outside?"
Esme was the first to speak " Jessica has been lying to us all. Eleazar informed us that she has been manipulating us into believing she doesn't remember what happened to her."
"What do you mean? How does he know she's been lying to us?" Bella asked. None of us said anything and it wasn't long before Bella came to the same conclusion. " She has a gift for manipulating people." She said it in a way as if she knew. As if it was always something Jessica did but she didn't want to admit about her friend.Bella told us that Jessica volunteered to be the seeker. She heard Jessica run back, forth, and around where she and Renesmee was hiding then disappeared. Bella never suspected that she would just run off. She thought that Jessica was only playing like she couldn't find him until Edward asked where she was. Though confused, she listened to Edward and brought Renesmee home.
Several hours had passed by the time Edward Emmett and Jasper showed back up with Jacob. They were able to track percent halfway back to Seattle before they called it off. Jessica had a good Head start wherever she was headed.
"What are we going to do? Without Alice's gift we won't know if and when the little Volturi will come." I asked
" I'm afraid we can't stay in Forks any longer." Carlisle answered.
"Wait! You can't just leave" Jacob said.
"Where would we go that Demetri won't be able to use his gift to find us?" Esme asked.
"No where" Edward answered. "He'll be able to find us no matter how far we run."
"I have an idea." We all turned to look at Silviana. "I believe I can place a shield around the house." She pulled out her grandmother's book started searching through pages until she came to the page she was looking for.
"I've been reading through the book and recently came across this." She said as she placed the book down on the coffee table for all to see. Carlisle studied the page carefully before he asked her "Do you think you can do it?"
"Yes" she answered confidently.
" So you don't have to leave after alwwwl" Jacob said. A hint of Hope flashed across his face.
"Unfortunately jacob, we still have to leave. It has to be a place unknown to those who are looking for us" Carlisle informed him.
" The island! It's small enough that it will be easy to patrol the grounds and the Volturi doesn't know about it. Well... Aro does but only because he read my thoughts. He knows that's where Renesmee was conceived. I had gotten into an argument with the housekeeper. She knew what I was and realized Bella was pregnant. I remember thinking it would be a long time before I would ever think about returning knowing that she knew what was going on. I believe that would be enough for Aro to not think of it."
"The logical thing to do would be not to go to any of our known locations" Jasper reminded him.
" Yes but that makes it even better. It'll be like hiding in plain sight. The shield would protect us from anyone other than Aro himself and I just don't see him doing his own searching."
As we all sat around mulling over Edward's idea Alice suddenly made a sound. "oh!" I turned to look in her direction and seen a familiar look upon her face. I knew by that look she was having a vision. It was the first time in weeks she had one. A sign that her powers were starting to return too. Relief and fear hit me all at once. I was thankful for the signs of her gift returning but felt fear in what she was seeing.Only a few seconds had passed when she snapped back to reality. A sly smile came across her face and she said "Edward is right. From what I just seen he's going to be mad because Demetri can't locate us."
"Well that's it then. We're going to Isle Esme" said Carlisle. Esme grabbed his hand and looked him in the eyes as she said to him " It's been awhile since I have seen my lovely Isle Esme. It will be nice to spend some time there together."We all agreed that Isle Esme was the best course of action. The next two days was all the time we had left in Forks to take care of all our affairs before we left. Bella told Charlie that Edward had been accepted into Harvard's medical school and that they had plans to move there. Of course he didn't want her to go but understood. Carlisle took some time off from work. He told the hospital he was going to be traveling with his family before they all went off to college. I had only one thing to take care of and that was to call the jewelry store about my order I had placed.
I spoke with Thomas Perkins once again and he informed me that he had just finished the order. In fact he was planning on calling me the next day. Although I was planning on traveling to Isle Esme, I was in no condition to do so. So I had Bella pick it up for me. With the help of J. Jenkins, we were able to get Silviana a passport. I made plans for me, her, and Renesmee to fly to Rio de Janeiro to meet up with Edward and Jasper. From there we would take a boat to the island. The others would travel by foot.
