The scent

Emmett and I was out hunting for deer when we came across a clearing. It was the clearing where we stood against the Volturi and my thoughts drifted back to that day. How close i was to losing my family scared me. I would willingly die for any of them even Bella has grown on me. It's been just over a month and everything is good. My family is safe for now or so Edward seems to think but I can't help this gut feeling that something bad is going to happen. The Volturi is not just going to let it go. Aro will find a way. i am sure of it.

I soon realized Emmett was no longer standing next to me. So i scanned the clearing for him. He was across the way when i saw him dip into the tree line on the other side. Soon after he yelled out

"Rosalie come over here i found something."

" what is it? Did you find a scent we can track?" I yelled back to him as i slowly walked in his direction.

"It's defiantly a scent but i never smelled anything like it. It stinks whatever it is."

"What could possibly smell worse then those mutts?" I asked out loud more to myself then him.

As i got closer to where he stood i could already smell the awful scent. I quickly covered my nose and mouth with my hand.

" oh my god it's awful. What do you think it could be?" I asked.

After all Emmett was an excellent hunter even when he was human.

"I have no idea but look at the leaves on the ground. See how they look like they've been Disturbed. Its like some kind of struggle happened here. And look here on this tree there's blood. looks like it happened some time ago."

"Do you think it was left from when the Volturi was here?"

"I doubt that" he said. "The blood on the tree looks to be a week old at the least. Lucky we haven't had rain since then or all this be gone."

"Lucky? How is this Lucky?" I love him to death but sometimes his child like behavior can really get under my skin.

"Well we haven't had any excitement around here since the Volturi left. So i am genuinely curious to see where this may lead."

Shaking my head at him I said "I think we should go back and get the others. I don't like the way this feels."

"Oh come on Rosalie we'll track it and see where it goes it could lead to nothing but in the off chance that we do find something we'll go get the others. Please!" Then he flashed me that big smile i loved so much.he then reached for my hand and kissed it. "You know i will protect you" he added as he caress my cheek.

He always seems to know how to win me over. How could i ever tell him no to anything. Usually i am the one getting my way, besides Carlisle will want to know more.

"Ok, but if we do find something we are going to get the others."

"Yes!" He cheered as he clapped his hands together. "Let's get to it shall we"

He kneeled down near the trunk of the tree where the blood spot was and inhaled through his nose. Curious to why he would do such a thing, I asked him "what are you doing?"

"Can't you smell that? It almost has a faint human-like scent to it." He replied. To be honest i didn't care and i wasn't about to get down there and take a better sniff. I just stood quietly with my arms crossed watching him scan the area. He had a mischievous smile on his face as he focused on the task at hand. When he finally stood up he started to walk further into the forest away from the clearing. He motioned for me to follow and i did.
