As a young girl, I strived in the waters. Feeling the strokes of the pool or ocean's touch at my skin was the most comfortable feeling ever. However, swimming was free and calm until I became a destined competitive swimmer from early elementary to now. I lacked confidence when I was out of the water, being around a crowd was more than enough to engage running away. Yet, when I'm around others with the same striving energy, I could feel my heart thumping to each second until the sound of the marker goes off and then boom, freedom.I pulled myself up from the pool and rested on the side of it for a second, breathing heavily after my last lap. I would always practice whenever I had time, being a medical student was hard enough, but somehow I managed to maintain my dream and my degree. A couple of my other teammates entered the pool area and greeted me as I walked by them towards the women's locker room. I took a shower to rinse myself from the chlorine and began to dress myself back into my everyday clothes. Then a buzz from my phone interrupted me as I was ruffling my hair with a towel. Picking up the phone I looked at the lockscreen for the notification that was sent to me. It was from no other than my best friend Haru.
Haru: Hey Y/N, I know it's been a while just checking in on you. How's Sydney?
I smiled at the thoughtful text that Haru sent me. He was always a quiet guy, you wouldn't think he'd care about others. However behind those deep ocean blue eyes, he does. The echo of my typing filled the locker room as I sat down at the bench that divided the two sides of the room.
Y/N: Hey man! It's nice to talk to you! Been forever tbh, I'm still practicing hard for the next nationals!
(Haru is typing....)
Haru: That's great Y/N, keep it up. I'm actually texting you because, well I wanted to keep it a secret but, I'm actually in Sydney rn.
My eyes lit up with joy and excitement. My best friend since our junior year of highschool who I haven't talked to in a hot minute, decided to surprise me with his visit. I quickly began to type back my response.
Y/N: REALLY? Omg I'm so excited!!!
(Haru is typing....)
Haru: Yeah, I actually brought Makoto with me too. We both have this weekend off, so we decided to leave campus and come down here.
Haru then sent me a selfie of him and Makoto in front of the airport. Makoto had a warm smile on his face in the back while Haru stood a bit too close to the camera with his dead gaze. I giggled underneath my breath as I continued to reply to him.
Y/N: Tell Makoto I said hi and can't wait to see the both of you soon!!!
(Haru is typing....)
Haru: Yeah of course Y/N. Do you want to meet us at a cafe tomorrow?
Y/N: Yea that will work!
I sat there planning the meetup with the guys. Both of them were actually my best friends, Makoto was more of the mother hen of the group when it came to it. I appreciated his kindness and loyalty for me and Haru. We all went to Iwatobi High but things changed when I started to get recruited for colleges and then I happened to transfer to Samezuka Academy. I did explain the moving and they seemed heartbroken but more so worried. Apparently over at Samezuka Academy, the kids that went there were way too competitive and a bit rude to say. I told them that I would be fine over there, and so I was. I found out that I was actually a natural born competitor when I was over there for the last year of highschool. Back in highschool a lot of the boys gawked at me during our swim matches. I felt a bit awkward around them, knowing that there were eyes on me the whole time, but the fire in me around the pool kept my spirit up. I finally said my goodbyes to Haru and packed my things before leaving the pool.
I didn't stay on campus, but I did have my own apartment in the downtown area of Sydney. It was a decent one, nothing too fancy to say the least. I entered the apartment and sat my things down at the entrance and emptied out my pockets and sat my keys and airpods on the counter. I decided to do some studying before going to bed, even though tomorrow I was off, I had planned to spend the entire day with Haru and Makoto. Going into the bedroom I changed into some shorts and an oversize shirt and began to uncover the comfortables. I laid there in bed, excited about tomorrow and oh how to spend the day with my best friends I haven't seen since highschool. Feeling my eyes getting tired, I slowly went off to sleep.
